As part of the Fleet Operations, Reliability and Central Engineering (“FORCE”) team at Meta, the IC2 Data Center Technician is an entry-level position. This role is designed for individuals beginning their careers in technology or data center operations, with a focus on learning foundational technical skills, following established procedures, and supporting the reliability of Meta’s global server fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Basic understanding of computer and network hardware, including cabling (personal, academic, or hobbyist experience).
  • Willingness to learn and follow detailed instructions, MOPs, and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability in task execution.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Perform routine physical checks of server and network hardware (including cabling) and assist with basic troubleshooting.
  • Follow documented procedures (MOPs) to support server hardware replacements, network hardware reseats/swaps, and repairs.
  • Perform physical cabling tasks — fiber/copper connections, optic (transceiver) reseats and swaps, and cable cleaning — as directed.
  • Assist with ticket resolution by gathering requested information and escalating issues as needed.
  • Participate in physical inspections of server and network hardware in data halls (including serial number and power verification) as directed.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including updates to checklists and logs.
  • Support the team in maintaining server and network uptime and reliability by responding promptly to assigned tickets.
  • Accurately pull and manage inventory (optics, cables, server spares) according to established processes and update inventory systems promptly.
  • Communicate clearly with team members, and escalate issues when outside of scope or expertise.
  • Participate in training and development activities to build technical skills.
  • Adhere to safety and security protocols at all times.
  • Physically assist with moving and racking server and network equipment for projects and operational needs.
  • Routine operation of hand and power tools (such as drills, screwdrivers, safety cutters, and lifts) to support installation and maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic hands-on experience with computer or network hardware/cabling (personal, academic, or professional)
  • Willingness to learn about Linux, basic networking concepts, and repair procedures
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to standard operating procedures
  • Ability to work under close supervision, with tasks/tickets assigned and reviewed by their Manager/Team Lead
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to safely lift, push, pull, and move at least 50 pounds (22 kg)
  • Capable of walking long distances and standing for extended periods throughout the day
  • Willingness to work extended shifts in a data center environment, including exposure to temperatures ranging from 79°F to 105°F (26°C to 40°C), while maintaining proper hydration
  • Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including weekends and holidays Coursework or certifications in IT, networking, computer science, or related fields (e.g., CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, fiber/optical cabling)
  • Exposure to basic networking concepts (e.g., IP addresses, DNS, switches, optics/transceivers, structured cabling)
  • Experience in data center environments or IT support roles (including school, volunteer, or hobbyist experience)
  • Interest in developing server and network technical skills over time
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn are highly valued
