Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.
Meta is looking for a Communications Manager to help shape and tell our story in Australia.
This role sits at the intersection of consumer, business, and policy communications, with a primary focus on Reality Labs products such as AI glasses (both consumer storytelling and addressing any relevant policy issues), business communications in support of our advertising and enterprise business (Global Business Group), and AI across both a consumer and policy communications lens.
We're looking for a well-rounded communicator: someone who is as comfortable landing a consumer product moment and running a social media campaign as they are working alongside Policy and Legal on a sensitive regulatory issue. You'll build proactive programs that drive business impact, translate complex technology topics for local audiences, and partner closely with global and cross-functional teams.
This role reports to the Communications Director, Australia, Japan and Korea, and sits within the APAC Communications team.
Responsibilities
- Own the Australian communications strategy for Reality Labs and wearables — leading consumer hardware launch moments, product storytelling and hands-on media experiences
- Anticipate and manage the policy, privacy and safety questions that accompany wearables and AI-enabled devices, in close partnership with Policy, Legal and global product comms
- Build credibility for the category with tech, consumer and lifestyle media, creators and reviewers; develop spokesperson readiness and position for emerging issues
- Lead local communications for Meta AI and AI product moments — making complex AI topics understandable, credible and relevant for Australian audiences
- Partner with Policy on AI regulation, transparency and responsible-AI narratives as the Australian framework evolves
- Work with creators and a range of media from consumer through to national political correspondents to help tell our story
- Serve as the communications partner to the Global Business Group in Australia, building narratives around Meta's value to advertisers, SMBs, and the local creator and commerce economy
- Develop data- and research-led business storytelling, client-facing moments, executive visibility and client case studies
- Support ad business and platform announcements end-to-end, from positioning through to measurement
- Partner with Policy, Legal and global comms on Australia's active regulatory agenda, developing communications strategies that support Meta's positioning
- Lead rapid response on complex issues and reputational incidents — triaging, coordinating cross-functionally and advising on posture
- Maintain issues playbooks, scenario plans and reactive materials
- Serve as a primary point of contact for Australian media in your area of focus — building deep, trust-based relationships with tier-1 tech, business, consumer, policy and press-gallery journalists, editors and digital publishers
- Act as an on-the-record and background spokesperson, and prepare and coach Meta leaders and subject-matter experts for interviews, briefings and public appearances
- Proactively shape narratives through pitching, exclusives, deskside briefings, op-eds, thought leadership and media events; know when to lean in and when to hold
- Maintain positive working relationships with our Australian agency partners — setting scopes of work, priorities and success measures, and holding them to a high standard of output and pace
- Direct agency and vendor resource as an extension of the team: briefing clearly, delegating with confidence, quality-controlling the work and escalating early when it misses the mark
- Manage budgets and retainers, making deliberate calls on where agency support adds the most leverage and where it doesn't
- Get the most from monitoring, research and creative vendors, including media monitoring and measurement partners
- Design social-first communications, using Meta's owned channels as a primary storytelling platform rather than an amplification afterthought
- Build creator and community partnerships that carry Meta's narrative authentically with local audiences
- Stay ahead of platform trends and cultural moments to inform channel strategy
- Champion a metrics-driven approach: use coverage, narrative share and sentiment data to inform strategy and demonstrate impact
- Actively use and experiment with AI tools to improve content production, media monitoring, research and reporting, and share learnings across the regional team
Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in communications spanning technology, policy, and business, with a track record of leading strategy independently
- Demonstrated experience across both consumer/product communications and policy or public-affairs communications — this role requires genuine range
- Expertise in social media and creator strategy, using owned channels as a core communications tool
- Outstanding media relations skills, with deep, well-established relationships across Australian tech, business, consumer and policy media, and a proven record of securing and shaping high-profile coverage
- Experience acting as a spokesperson and preparing senior leaders for media engagements, including on contentious or highly scrutinised topics
- Strong press-office instincts: fast, accurate reactive judgement under deadline pressure
- Proven experience managing PR agencies and vendor partners — scoping, briefing, budget ownership and driving high-quality output through others
- Experience advising senior leaders and managing complex, sensitive or high-scrutiny issues
- Proven track record of building and running communications programs end-to-end with measurable business outcomes
- Experience communicating complex topics clearly in writing and verbally to diverse stakeholders, with demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement in time-sensitive situations
- Ability to prioritise competing workstreams based on impact, deadlines and stakeholder needs in a dynamic environment Experience communicating hardware, consumer devices, or emerging technology categories
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Willingness to integrate AI tools to optimise or redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g. efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience working across regions and with global, cross-functional teams is a plus
- Experience navigating complex regulatory or public-affairs environments in Australia
- Experience supporting sales, advertising or B2B organisations

- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience at a technology platform, or in a highly regulated or high-scrutiny industry
