WhatsApp is seeking a highly motivated and versatile team player to serve as Associate General Counsel, Product, for WhatsApp. The role requires experience in applying complex, evolving legal frameworks to new and innovative products and services and influencing compliance and regulatory strategy with other legal teams across Meta.
This role will focus on supporting WhatsApp consumer initiatives across a number of products and services.
The ideal candidate will have the skills to work proactively and independently with various teams across the organization, including Product, Engineering, Policy, Communications and Marketing, and have experience advising on product risks in a fast-paced business environment with a rapidly-evolving legal and regulatory landscape.
Associate General Counsel, Product (WhatsApp) Responsibilities
- Drive and support high-profile and high-impact projects involving legal analysis and compliance with cross-functional stakeholders across WhatsApp’s business, policy, legal, communications, security, and other cross-functional teams, covering many subject areas, including consumer and data protection laws and regulations.
- Oversee outside counsel relationships.
- Lead across and coordinate with public policy and communications colleagues on external communication, policy development, and enforcement decisions.
- Help to set, implement and improve the strategy and vision for advising and partnering with business teams.
- Directly manage client relationships with the business.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution
- Active and in good standing bar license in at least one U.S. state or equivalent foreign bar license. Where the jurisdiction of licensure differs from the location in which the role is based, the ability to promptly obtain permission to practice law for Meta in that location
- 8+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm, in-house, or in government
- Demonstrated knowledge of global privacy laws, regulations, privacy programs and industry guidelines
- Diligent, proactive, collaborative partner and who has demonstrated sound legal and business judgment and strategic thinking
- Experience working on multiple projects in a deadline-focussed environment, delivering practical advice under pressure
- Experience communicating legal advice to clients at varying levels
- Experience taking on projects involving different subject matters, and working with cross-functional organizations to drive alignment
- Demonstrate business judgment and client counseling skills
- Effective communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience with product, privacy, or regulatory counseling related to global privacy and AI-related laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media, internet and technology companies
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

United States of America: $202,000/year to $274,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base compensation, Meta offers benefits.
