The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and performance of J. S. Held’s enterprise applications by designing and executing comprehensive testing strategies.
This role plays a key part in reducing operational risk, improving user experience, and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality solutions across integrated systems.
Key Responsibilities
Test Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute QA strategies for enterprise applications and integrations
- Define test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria aligned to business requirements
- Partner with Product Managers and Business Analysts to ensure adequate test coverage
- Take ownership in establishing and enhancing QA methodologies, processes, and governance practices, demonstrating a proactive and self-directed approach to quality assurance initiatives

Test Execution & Automation
- Perform functional, regression, integration, and user acceptance testing support
- Build and maintain automated test scripts where applicable
- Validate accuracy of workflows across time, expense, billing, and project systems
- Demonstrate a hands-on, results-oriented mindset with the ability to independently identify quality risks, drive testing activities, and deliver solutions with minimal supervision
Performance Testing Competency
- Design and execute non-functional testing including performance, load, and reliability validation
- Validate system behavior under failure conditions (timeouts, API errors, downstream failures)
- Manage test environments and coordinate test data setup across systems
- Ensure test data accuracy, completeness, and alignment with production scenarios
- Perform API testing including request/response validation, schema verification, and error handling scenarios
- Validate authentication, authorization, and data exchange patterns across integrations
- Execute release validation, including smoke testing and post-deployment verification
- Validate rollback procedures and ensure production readiness prior to release
- Collaborate effectively with globally distributed teams and stakeholders across multiple time zones to support testing, release, and project commitments
- Maintain schedule flexibility, when required, to accommodate meetings, testing activities, and critical project milestones involving team members across different regions and UTC time zones
Defect Management & Resolution
- Identify, document, and track defects through resolution
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to prioritize fixes
- Ensure releases meet defined quality and performance standards
Integration & Data Validation
- Validate end-to-end workflows across multiple interconnected systems
- Ensure data integrity across ERP, workflow tools, and reporting platforms
- Support testing of APIs, data pipelines, and system integrations
Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to reduce defects
- Contribute to QA best practices, standards, and documentation
- Support enhancements to release management and testing processes
- Act as Player/Coach, mentor, and support team members in developing QA and testing skills, promoting best practices and fostering a quality-first mindset across the team
- Contribute to building and maturing the organization's QA processes, standards, and testing frameworks through a proactive and continuous improvement approach
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of experience in Quality Assurance or Software Testing
- Experience with enterprise applications, ERP systems, or multi-system integrations
- Familiarity with test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, or similar)
- Experience with test case management and defect tracking tools (e.g., Azure DevOps)
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Preferred Attributes
- Experience in professional services or consulting environments
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodologies
- Ability to work across distributed teams and complex system landscapes
