Job Description:

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineering Manager within HPE’s Product Security Office (PSO), you will build and lead a high-performing development team responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and operating secure, reliable, and scalable software.

Your team will deliver applications, platforms, APIs, automation, and integrations that enable product teams to identify, manage, and reduce security risk across the product lifecycle.

This is a build-and-scale people leadership role. You will create the team environment, delivery discipline, and engineering practices needed to turn product security priorities into dependable capabilities used across HPE.

You will set clear priorities, develop engineering talent, establish repeatable operating mechanisms, and ensure the team delivers measurable outcomes with strong security, quality, reliability, and maintainability.

Operating within PSO’s matrixed model, you will balance shared engineering capacity across multiple product security capabilities, partnering with capability owners who define business outcomes and priorities while retaining accountability for people leadership, engineering execution, and technical delivery.

You will bring enough technical depth to guide decisions, challenge approaches, review engineering quality, and remove obstacles while holding engineers accountable for technical ownership and execution.

You will partner with PSO leaders, product and capability owners, architects, program managers, product engineering teams, and adjacent cybersecurity organizations to align roadmaps, manage dependencies, and scale solutions across diverse product environments. The role manages individual contributors and succeeds by building a capable team—not by acting as the primary architect or personally owning every technical decision.

What you’ll do

Build and Lead the Engineering Team

  • Hire, onboard, lead, and develop a team of individual-contributor software and security engineers, setting clear expectations, goals, development plans, and accountability for results.
  • Create an inclusive, high-trust engineering culture grounded in ownership, collaboration, technical excellence, continuous learning, and constructive challenge.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback, career development, and performance support while building succession strength and expanding the team’s technical capabilities.
  • Match work to skills and development needs, delegate meaningful ownership, and ensure senior engineers lead design and implementation within clear decision boundaries.
  • Plan team capacity, workload, and skill coverage; identify resourcing risks and recommend hiring, development, or partner strategies.

Drive Engineering Delivery and Operations

  • Translate Product Security Office priorities and capability roadmaps into clear engineering plans, milestones, ownership, and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead day-to-day engineering execution, including prioritization, sprint and release planning, dependency management, risk tracking, escalation, and delivery reviews.
  • Ensure the team builds and operates secure, reliable, maintainable, and scalable software, services, automation, APIs, data integrations, and product security tooling.
  • Establish effective engineering practices for design review, source control, testing, CI/CD, secure development, release management, observability, incident response, and operational support.
  • Balance new capability development with operational reliability, technical debt reduction, defect remediation, platform modernization, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Define and monitor meaningful measures for delivery predictability, quality, reliability, security, adoption, and engineering effectiveness.

Shape Product Security Capabilities

  • Partner with product and capability owners to understand user needs, clarify requirements, prioritize engineering investments, and sequence delivery across the Product Security Office capability portfolio.
  • Guide development of reusable product security platforms and services that improve vulnerability management, security assessment, secure development, reporting, workflow automation, or related security outcomes.
  • Promote automation and responsible use of AI-assisted engineering where they improve speed, consistency, coverage, or user experience while preserving validation, traceability, security, and human accountability.
  • Ensure security, privacy, data-handling, resilience, and compliance considerations are incorporated into solution design and delivery.
  • Use stakeholder feedback, operational data, and engineering insights to identify opportunities for simplification, reuse, integration, and continuous improvement.

Lead Across Teams and Boundaries

  • Build strong working relationships across Product Security, product engineering, security research, vulnerability response, infrastructure, architecture, and enterprise technology teams.
  • Align stakeholders on priorities, scope, tradeoffs, dependencies, and delivery commitments, escalating material risks with clear options and recommendations.
  • Provide transparent capacity, dependency, and engineering investment tradeoffs across the PSO portfolio, helping leadership determine when capabilities should be built, integrated, scaled, modernized, consolidated, or retired.
  • Coordinate effectively with globally distributed teams and partners while establishing clear ownership, handoffs, documentation, and operating rhythms.
  • Communicate engineering progress, risks, decisions, and outcomes clearly to technical teams, product leaders, and senior stakeholders.
  • Represent the team in planning, architecture, operational, and leadership forums while ensuring individual contributors retain appropriate technical visibility and ownership.

What you need to bring:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, cybersecurity, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically 10 or more years of relevant software engineering, security engineering, or technology experience, including 3+ years of people management experience directly managing software engineers.
  • Proven experience leading teams that design, build, release, and operate enterprise software, platforms, services, automation, or developer-facing capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage individual contributors, develop talent, set clear priorities, address performance issues, and create accountability for delivery and engineering quality.
  • Experience establishing or improving engineering practices across software design, code review, testing, CI/CD, secure development, release management, observability, and operational support.
  • Experience managing roadmaps, delivery plans, dependencies, technical debt, operational risk, and competing stakeholder priorities in a complex or matrixed organization.
  • Strong technical understanding of modern software architecture, APIs, cloud environments, containers, data platforms, source control, CI/CD, and secu
