Get to Know the Team
The MiniApp Platform team builds the technology that enables internal teams and external partners to create and operate MiniApps within the Grab ecosystem. We own the mobile SDKs, native entry points, backend integrations, developer tooling, reliability foundations, and self-service capabilities that help partners move from integration to production safely and quickly.
Get to Know the Role
As a Senior Android Engineer, you will own and evolve the Android side of the MiniApp platform. You will build reusable SDK and native capabilities, improve parity across Android and iOS, and help the platform scale from managed partner integrations toward a governed developer ecosystem.
You will work with iOS, backend, full-stack, QA, product, and partner-facing teams to deliver reliable experiences used across Southeast Asia.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
- Design, build, and maintain Android SDK capabilities, native entry points, JavaScript bridges, and reusable APIs for MiniApps.
- Improve SDK reliability, performance, security, observability, and backward compatibility across Grab app releases.
- Drive Android and iOS capability parity by defining clear cross-platform contracts and developer experiences.
- Partner with backend engineers on Horus services, authentication, scopes, transaction capabilities, telemetry, and other platform integrations.
- Build automated tests, release tooling, sample applications, and technical documentation that make partner integrations faster and safer.
- Investigate production issues, strengthen monitoring and failure handling, and contribute to incident response and post-incident improvements.
- Collaborate with product, design, QA, and partner teams to translate requirements into scalable mobile platform solutions.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, code reviews, mentoring, and continuous improvement of engineering standards.
What Essential Skills You Will Need
- At least 5 years of professional Android development experience, with proficiency in Kotlin and the Android SDK.
- Experience designing or maintaining mobile SDKs, libraries, or platform components used by multiple product teams.
- Knowledge of Android application architecture, lifecycle, concurrency, networking, storage, and performance optimisation.
- Experience with WebView-based integrations, JavaScript bridges, RESTful APIs, and secure client-server communication.
- Understanding of API design, versioning, backward compatibility, testing strategy, and release management.
- Hands-on experience with unit, integration, and instrumentation testing, and CI/CD for Android applications or SDKs.
- Diagnose complex production issues using logs, metrics, traces, and systematic debugging techniques.
- Collaboration and communication skills, with experience working across mobile, backend, QA, product, and external partner teams.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction through architecture and high-quality code.
- Experience with mobile security, observability, developer tooling, or large-scale platform ecosystems is an advantage.
