It works with internal users to improve the systems they rely on in their daily work.

Get to Know the Role

As a Backend Software Engineer Intern, you will work with experienced engineers to improve internal applications, services, integrations, and AI-enabled workflows. You will contribute across the software development lifecycle, from prototyping and testing to deployment and monitoring, with guidance from the team.

This is a full-time, onsite internship at Grab One North, Singapore, running from January to May/June 2027.

You will report to Senior Manager of GTS. You will gain practical experience in backend engineering, enterprise integrations, and AI workflow development.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

  • You will design, prototype, and develop internal applications, services, integrations, and workflow automations for areas such as IT service management and service operations.
  • You will build AI-enabled workflows using suitable combinations of language models, prompts, retrieval, tools, APIs, structured data, and human approval controls.
  • You will integrate solutions with enterprise systems, including IT service platforms, telemetry sources, knowledge repositories, and internal APIs.
  • You will write readable, modular, and tested code; participate in code reviews; and maintain technical documentation while applying secure development and data-handling practices.
  • You will develop and run evaluations of AI solutions, assessing correctness, relevance, reliability, safety, latency, and operational impact.
  • You will support deployment, monitoring, and incident investigation by reviewing logs, metrics, and traces, and use feedback from internal users to improve solutions.
  • You will use approved GenAI tools to support coding, research, documentation, or testing, and review their outputs before use.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

  • You are pursuing a degree, diploma, ITE qualification, or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline.
  • You have practical programming experience in Python or another mainstream language, demonstrated through coursework, projects, internships, or equivalent work.
  • You understand software engineering fundamentals, including version control, modular design, debugging, and automated testing
  • You have working knowledge of APIs, HTTP, JSON, databases, and SQL.
  • You understand foundational AI concepts, including LLMs, prompting, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, and model evaluation.
  • You have experience engaging with AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance productivity, improve workflows, and contribute new ideas.
  • You can investigate system behaviour using logs, metrics, or traces and document findings in a structured way.
  • You have deployed code to at least one cloud environment, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, through coursework, projects, or internships.
