About this role

Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.

Fourier is working on making on-site Hydrogen universally accessible. Our breakthrough architecture enables highly modular and fully automated electrolyzers that scale to any size and optimize efficiency at all loads. We are on a mission to transition the global energy landscape towards a purely sustainable and emission free future.

About the Role

We are looking for a full time Sr. Electrical Engineer to work on the design and development of high power electrical systems, from early ideation through architectural decisions, circuit implementation, and lab validation. You will own the design of power converters and their integration into our electrolyzer system, and play a hands-on role in bench-top bring-up, testing, and verification of your designs.

You will also be responsible for setting up a lab for power electronics development and prototyping. The ideal candidate takes pride in delivering rigorous, well-documented designs and understands that clear electrical documentation and uncompromising safety practices are as critical as the designs themselves.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Explore and develop novel ideas and architectural concepts for high power electrical systems (>100 kW, AC-DC), translating early ideation into concrete design decisions that guide system architecture and modularity.
  • Drive the selection and validation of converter topologies against system-level design requirements — including input power quality, output current ripple, and efficiency — and own the bench-top testing and experimental validation that confirms or informs those architectural choices.
  • Design of power electronic converters, both AC-DC and DC-DC up to 50kW for integration into larger power systems.
  • Develop and maintain high quality Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) as a core design deliverable at each stage of the design process, from initial architecture through final system integration. SLDs must clearly communicate system topology, protection schemes, switching devices, and power flow to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Protection circuit design for current, voltage, and temperature.
  • Low voltage design for current, temperature, voltage measurements, CAN/RS-485 communication interface
  • Development of Isolation and ground schemes
  • Development of Low voltage/on board power supply rails
  • High power PCB design/layout experience with using Altium
  • Modeling and simulation of power circuits.
  • Selection of all circuit components like MOSFET/IGBT, controllers, OP-amps & ADCs
  • Define converter control concept and complete small signal design and analysis.
  • Power loss analysis.
  • Thermal design and analysis of the power components.
  • Power quality design for 3 phase AC input (Power factor and total harmonic distortion).
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable electrical safety standards (e.g. UL, IEC, NFPA 70/NEC, IEEE) and actively participate in design reviews with a safety-first mindset.
  • Identify and document electrical hazards, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain design documentation sufficient to support third-party safety audits and certification processes.
  • Oversee procurement and assembly of hardware.
  • Lab bring-up and verification of initial design and revisions.
  • Support of the system integration and testing.
  • Work independently and exercise judgment in making design changes.

Qualifications and Skills

Qualified candidates for this role will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with extensive industry experience bringing power circuit designs/products from concept to field deployment. A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus.

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of power conversion circuits and topologies
  • AC-DC: Totem pole PFC and 3 phase PFC, LLC
  • DC-DC: Buck, Full bridge, PSFB, DAB, and LLC
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, accurate, and complete Single Line Diagrams for high power systems, including proper representation of protective devices, grounding schemes, metering, and disconnects.
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety standards and regulatory frameworks relevant to high power industrial equipment, including UL 508A, IEC 62109, NFPA 70E, and/or NEC. Experience supporting UL/CE certification processes is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with LTspice, PLECS and Matlab Simulink.
  • Knowledge and experience with schematic capture tools with preference for Altium.
  • Knowledge and experience with printed circuit board design using popular CAD packages with a preference for Altium.
  • Knowledge and experience mitigating EMI through circuit design and PCB layout.
  • Knowledge of Matlab, Python, MathCAD and/or other common tools for design calculations.
  • Hands-on experience using lab equipment including soldering stations, oscilloscopes, power supplies, loads, network analyzers, data acquisition systems, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Demonstrated safe laboratory practices and familiarity with arc flash analysis, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and high voltage safety protocols.
  • Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience designing high frequency magnetics is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Power Quality/EMI/EMC/Safety Regulatory Compliance is desirable.
  • Firmware development for embedded controllers is desirable.

What We Offer

  • Fully paid Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience
  • 401k
  • Diverse and inclusive work environment
  • A unique opportunity to influence a product concept at the highest level and then lead the delivery of key components
  • Paid sick days and vacation
