Build a Career Where Your Effort Creates Opportunity
Farmers Insurance agencies in the Lansing/East Lansing area are looking for motivated professionals to join their teams as Agents in Training.
This is a sales-focused role for someone who enjoys working with people, is motivated by goals, and wants the opportunity to grow their income and career. You’ll gain hands-on experience in insurance sales, customer relationships, and business development while receiving ongoing training and coaching.
No previous insurance experience? That’s okay. If you have strong people skills, a competitive mindset, and the willingness to learn, we’ll help you build the insurance knowledge you need.
What You’ll Do
- Connect with prospective customers through leads, referrals, phone calls, and community outreach
- Prepare quotes and clearly explain coverage options
- Sell Auto, Home, Life, Business, and other insurance products
- Follow up consistently with leads and open quotes
- Build relationships with new and existing customers
- Identify opportunities to provide additional coverage
- Work toward individual and agency production goals
- Participate in ongoing sales coaching and professional development
What We’re Looking For
You could be a strong fit if you:
- Enjoy meeting and talking with new people
- Are motivated by goals, results, and earning potential
- Are confident picking up the phone and starting conversations
- Can hear “no” and keep moving toward the next opportunity
- Take coaching well and want feedback that helps you improve
- Are dependable, organized, and consistent with follow-up
- Want a career with room to grow
Experience in sales, customer service, restaurants, hospitality, retail, banking, leasing, automotive, healthcare, or another people-focused environment can translate well into this role.
Licensing and Training
You do not need to begin with insurance experience, but you must be willing to learn.
A Michigan Property and Casualty insurance license is required to sell insurance. Candidates who are not currently licensed must be willing to complete the licensing process before beginning sales responsibilities.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation and benefits vary by individual agency but may include:
- Competitive base pay plus uncapped commission potential
- Performance bonuses and sales incentives
- Lead generation and prospecting resources
- Training and ongoing sales coaching
- Paid time off and holidays
- Professional development
- Opportunities for leadership and increased responsibility
- Long-term career growth within the insurance industry
For individuals interested in eventually running a business of their own, this role could lead to that pathway. This development program combines sales experience, mentorship, and business training for qualified candidates interested in potentially becoming a Farmers agency owner.
