The Staff Cloud Engineer is responsible for architecting, automating, and optimising Azure cloud infrastructure, ensuring it is secure, scalable, and cost-effective. They lead complex cloud initiatives, solve critical challenges, and drive cloud automation, security, and observability at scale. This role is ideal for candidates with 8+ years of experience who want to drive technical direction and innovation.

  • Design, deploy, and optimise Azure compute (Virtual Machines, Functions, Container Apps), storage (Blob Storage, Managed Disks, Azure Files), and databases (Azure SQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL/MySQL, Cosmos DB).
  • Architect Azure networking solutions (Virtual Network, Virtual WAN, ExpressRoute, Azure DNS, Network Security Groups, VPN Gateway, Application Gateway and Azure Load Balancer).
  • Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for multi-subscription Azure environments using Terraform and Bicep.
  • Lead CI/CD automation and DevOps tooling with Azure Pipelines, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins.
  • Implement advanced Azure security and compliance with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure RBAC, Key Vault, Web Application Firewall, Defender for Cloud, and Microsoft Sentinel.
  • Establish observability and monitoring using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Managed Prometheus, Azure Managed Grafana, and logging frameworks.
  • Drive cost optimisation strategies, ensuring resource efficiency through FinOps best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex cloud performance, reliability, and security issues.
  • Lead Azure cloud infrastructure design, automation, and security for enterprise-scale deployments.
  • Architect and implement highly available, scalable, and cost-efficient Azure cloud solutions.
  • Drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation using Terraform, Bicep, and Azure Resource Manager templates.
  • Develop and optimise CI/CD pipelines, cloud observability, and performance monitoring.
  • Collaborate with Cloud Architects, Security Engineers, and DevOps teams on best practices.
  • Solve complex cloud challenges related to networking, security, and cost governance.
  • Lead cloud migrations, modernisation, and platform engineering efforts.
  • Mentor and coach senior and mid-level cloud engineers to improve skills and technical capabilities.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (Highly Recommended).
  • Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert (Preferred).
  • Terraform Associate Certification (Preferred for IaC expertise).
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate or Azure Network Engineer Associate (Optional, based on focus area).
  • Continuous learning through Azure hands-on training, labs, and leadership programmes.
  • 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, platform automation, or DevOps roles.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in Azure cloud services, Infrastructure as Code, and automation frameworks.
  • Advanced scripting and automation experience in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Strong background in cloud security, IAM, encryption, and compliance (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS benchmarks).
  • Proven experience leading cloud transformation, migration, and platform modernisation projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of Azure cost governance, budgeting, and FinOps strategies.
  • Experience working in Agile, DevOps, and SRE environments.
  • Strong mentorship and leadership skills to guide technical teams.
