The role

Checkout. com is looking for an enthusiastic Engineer I to join Finance Technology with a focus on Workday Adaptive Planning . Adaptive Planning supports finance, workforce, sales, and operational planning, giving teams a shared platform for budgeting, forecasting, modelling, reporting, and decision-making.

This is an early-career engineering role for someone who wants to build depth in finance systems, application configuration, data integration, and operational support. You will work with Finance, Finance Technology, Data, and wider Corporate Technology teams to keep planning processes reliable, well-controlled, and easy to operate.

You will have support from more senior engineers for complex design decisions, but you will be expected to work independently for longer periods on well-defined configuration, integration, support, and continuous-improvement tasks.

This reflects Checkout’s Engineer 1 expectations: delivering small-to-medium-sized work, supporting common operational flows, communicating clearly, and taking ownership of the quality of what you deliver.

How you’ll make an impact

• Configure, maintain, and enhance Adaptive Planning models, dimensions, versions, levels, accounts, sheets, reports, dashboards, and planning workflows under appropriate guidance.
• Support the delivery of budgeting, forecasting, headcount planning, scenario modelling, and management reporting capabilities for Finance and business stakeholders.
• Build and support data loads and integrations between Adaptive Planning, Workday Financials, Workday HCM, and other approved internal or third-party systems.
• Maintain data mappings, transformation rules, validation checks, and reconciliation processes so that planning data is complete, accurate, and traceable.
• Monitor scheduled loads and integration tasks, investigate failures, and resolve common data or configuration issues within agreed service levels.
• Triage incidents and service requests, identifying root causes and escalating complex or high-risk issues with clear evidence and recommended next steps.
• Partner with Finance stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into maintainable system configuration, reporting, or integration changes.
• Contribute to the assessment and delivery of future analytics data flows, including the potential use of Adaptive Planning data in BigQuery and management analytics.
• Participate in testing, regression testing, release preparation, and controlled deployment of Adaptive Planning changes.
• Follow change-control, access-management, data-quality, and audit requirements relevant to financial systems and planning data.
• Create clear documentation, support guides, data dictionaries, integration runbooks, and knowledge-base articles so that operational knowledge is shared rather than held by one person.
• Identify recurring manual work or failure patterns and propose practical automation and process improvements.

What we’re looking for

Essential experience and skills

• Experience in a finance systems, enterprise applications, data, reporting, or integration environment.
• Practical experience with Workday Adaptive Planning, or strong experience with a comparable planning, performance-management, ERP, or finance application and a clear ability to learn Adaptive quickly.
• Understanding of core finance planning concepts such as budgets, forecasts, actuals, variance analysis, allocations, dimensions, hierarchies, and scenarios.
• Experience configuring or supporting structured data models, application workflows, reports, dashboards, or business rules.
• Ability to work with data imports, exports, mappings, transformations, validations, and reconciliations.
• Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to break down an issue, gather evidence, identify likely causes, and communicate findings clearly.
• Good attention to detail and an understanding of why accuracy, access control, auditability, and repeatability matter in finance systems.
• Ability to manage small-to-medium-sized tasks independently while knowing when to ask for help or escalate.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with Finance and Technology stakeholders.

Desirable experience

• Workday Adaptive Planning certification or implementation experience.
• Experience with Adaptive Planning Integration, Planning Data Loader, APIs, or equivalent enterprise planning integration tooling.
• Experience integrating planning systems with Workday Financials, Workday HCM, an ERP, a data warehouse, or a reporting platform.
• Familiarity with SOX controls, financial audit requirements, data privacy, and segregation of duties.
• Experience supporting month-end, budget, forecast, or management-reporting cycles.
• Exposure to Agile delivery, ticket-driven change management, incident management, or service-management practices.

What success looks like

After the first 6–12 months, you will be able to:

• Support common Adaptive Planning configuration, data-load, and reporting requests with limited supervision.
• Diagnose and resolve routine integration or data-quality issues using a structured troubleshooting approach.
• Deliver small-to-medium-sized enhancements from requirement clarification through testing, documentation, and controlled release.
• Explain key planning data flows, mappings, dependencies, and operational controls to Finance and Technology colleagues.
• Improve the reliability or efficiency of at least one recurring planning or finance-technology process.
• Maintain accurate, useful documentation and contribute positively to team ceremonies, reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
