Role purpose
The Periodic Review Due Diligence Specialist is responsible for conducting AML periodic reviews and AML event driven reviews of merchants and sub merchants to ensure customer information, ownership structures, business activity, transaction profiles and supporting documentation remain accurate, current and compliant with internal standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
The role supports Checkout. com ’s ongoing monitoring framework by assessing whether a merchant’s existing risk rating and due diligence level remain appropriate, and taking the appropriate action through case management, escalation and stakeholder engagement.
The role is also expected to embody Checkout. com ’s Operating Principles in how work is performed: putting the customer first through high-quality review outcomes and clear communication, acting with ownership and urgency, maintaining a high bar for accuracy and evidence, collaborating as one team across stakeholders, and continuously improving review quality, process discipline and operational effectiveness.
Key roles and responsibilities
- Conduct end-to-end AML periodic reviews and AML event driven reviews of merchants and sub merchants in line with internal procedures, policy requirements and review timelines.
- Review merchant information including ownership structure, business activity, line of business, processing activity, regional exposure and supporting documentation to ensure and confirm that the customer profile remains accurate and complete.
- Assess whether the merchant’s risk rating and due diligence level remain appropriate based on current information and review findings.
- Complete required review actions within the relevant internal systems and tools, including Salesforce and Fircosoft Compliance Link.
- Manage periodic review cases from assignment through closure, ensuring statuses, sub-statuses, notes, evidence and outcomes are accurately maintained.
- Raise and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) with merchants, account managers or internal stakeholders where documents or clarifications are required.
- Perform enhanced due diligence reviews where required for higher-risk merchants, including analysis of risk triggers, supporting documentation and rationale for final decisions.
- Escalate cases appropriately where review findings, risk indicators or policy triggers require secondary review or approval.
- Maintain clear, accurate and audit-ready case commentary, review notes and evidencing to support decisions taken.
- Immediately escalate unusual or suspicious activity in line with internal reporting obligations.
- Support quality, control and continuous improvement initiatives by highlighting process gaps, tool issues, documentation weaknesses and operational inefficiencies and suggesting solutions.
- Contribute to consistent decision-making, knowledge sharing and strong operational discipline across the periodic review team.
Individual profile
The ideal individual is a detail-oriented and risk-aware specialist with strong AML and customer due diligence knowledge, sound judgement, and the ability to manage a high volume of cases while maintaining quality and discipline. They should be comfortable analysing customer information, identifying discrepancies, following structured procedures and documenting decisions.
They should also be able to communicate clearly with both internal and external stakeholders, manage competing priorities, and escalate issues promptly where risk, policy or operational thresholds are met.
Skills
- 3+ years' relevant work experience.
- Strong understanding of AML, KYC, KYB, CDD and EDD principles.
- Ability to review and interpret corporate documents, ownership structures and merchant information.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to identify inconsistencies, red flags and material changes in risk profile.
- Ability to make structured, evidence-based decisions in line with policy and procedural requirements.
- Strong written communication skills for case notes, RFIs, internal escalations and stakeholder updates.
- Good stakeholder management and follow-up discipline.
- Ability to manage workload effectively across multiple live cases and deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Good judgement in identifying when to escalate or seek secondary review.
- Ability to work with case management and due diligence tools.
- Comfortable using internal platforms and review-supporting tools as required.
- Ability to work within controlled processes while remaining adaptable to system and procedural changes.
