About this role
The Senior Systems Engineer owns and raises the standard for the core infrastructure the business runs on: virtualization, identity, patching, backup and disaster recovery, and security and audit support. The Systems and Network team runs a large, regulated hybrid environment spanning Windows and Linux servers and endpoints across on-premises VMware and Azure.
This senior individual contributor serves as a technical anchor on a small team, automating repetitive work, deepening coverage across identity and core platforms, and addressing the infrastructure improvement backlog.
The role owns the on-premises server platforms, Active Directory and identity services, enterprise patching, and the backup platform, and is the systems-side owner of the IT general controls that depend on them. Windows and Linux workloads hosted in Azure are supported under standards set by the cloud platform team, which owns the Azure platform itself.
Information Security owns the security tooling, vulnerability-management program, and audit findings; this role is its primary engineering partner for server-estate remediation.
World Finance (World Acceptance Corporation, NASDAQ
WRLD) has served customers’ financial needs for 60+ years through roughly 1,000 community branches. This role helps keep a stable, publicly traded business running and secure while modernizing infrastructure that matters.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Own and optimize VMware (ESXi/vCenter), Windows Server, and Linux (primarily RHEL): lifecycle, performance, hardening, and uptime, plus SAN and clustered storage.
- Own Active Directory, Group Policy, and Entra ID, and deepen expertise and coverage across ADFS and automated identity provisioning and deprovisioning (IAM).
- Own enterprise patching across Windows and Linux and drive it to automation through phased rings, maintenance windows, automated pre- and post-checks and rollback, and backlog clearance. Remediate vulnerability and penetration-test findings routed by Information Security. Keep IT general controls supporting SOX and audit obligations stable and audit-ready, including evidence for patching, backups, and access.
- Own the enterprise backup platform: jobs, retention, immutable and offsite copies, and scheduled restore testing. Participate in BCP/DR exercises and audit-readiness programs.
- Use PowerShell, Bash, and Python to automate provisioning, patching, backup validation, and reporting. Develop golden images and templates to eliminate configuration drift, with strong monitoring and alerting.
- Build, patch, and support Windows and Linux virtual machines hosted in Azure, following the cloud platform team’s landing-zone, networking, and security standards.
- Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot agents and server-side infrastructure for endpoint protection, vulnerability management, file-integrity monitoring, inventory, and patch management tools, in partnership with Information Security, which owns the tooling and program.
- Administer Microsoft 365 and the email security platform.
- Administer the managed file transfer platform: workflows, partner connections, certificates and keys, and monitoring.
- Provide hands-on enterprise switching, firewall, and SD-WAN support as backup to the network architect.
- Other duties as assigned.
