About this role
About Us
Watchtower Defense is a growing firearms manufacturer specializing in precision-engineered handguns and rifles. We're looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to help drive product development and support our manufacturing operations.
Position Summary
We're seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong CAD and CAM skills to support the design, development, and production of firearms components. The ideal candidate combines engineering fundamentals with hands-on, high-volume machining expertise and a genuine interest in firearms.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and manage 3D parametric and direct models and assemblies (SolidWorks preferred), using relationships/parameters and deriving 2D drawings from 3D models
- Apply GD&T to models, assemblies, and drawings for manufacturing
- Program and optimize multi-axis CNC toolpaths (SolidCam, MasterCam, Esprit, or equivalent) for milling, turning, and simultaneous multi-axis machining
- Edit and troubleshoot G-code on Okuma and Fanuc controllers
- Design fixtures and workholding solutions to support high-volume production
- Develop probing cycles, macros, and in-process inspection routines for tools and workpieces
- Collaborate with machining and assembly teams to troubleshoot production issues
- Support new product development from concept through production
- Drive process improvements to increase efficiency, throughput, and part quality
- Work with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, quality) to resolve design and manufacturing challenges
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- Proficiency in 3D parametric/direct CAD modeling and 2D drafting, with strong GD&T application (SolidWorks preferred)
- Proficiency in CAM software (SolidCam, MasterCam, Esprit, or equivalent) with strong knowledge of multi-axis work coordinates and kinematics
- Hands-on experience with milling and turning, including 5-axis, 3+1, 3+2, and simultaneous 4-axis machining (Swiss and mill-turn a plus)
- Experience with high-speed machining strategies and cutting tool science, geometry, and equations
- Experience in high-volume, high-density production shop environments, including pallet machines (4-axis, horizontal or vertical)
- Strong knowledge of workholding solutions and fixture design
- Working knowledge of firearms design, function, and terminology
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail; comfortable wearing multiple hats in a fast-paced, startup-stage environment
Preferred
- Prior experience in the firearms industry
- Finite element analysis and finite element modeling experience
Pay: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Dental insurance
- Employee discount
- Health insurance
- Life insurance
- Paid time off
