About this role
We are a growing Atlanta-area law firm representing individuals, businesses, and local governments. Our government practice is built on one idea: public bodies deserve counsel that is responsive, precise, and present. We bring that same standard to how we treat clients, our communities, and the people who work here.
We are looking for an Associate Attorney who wants to do meaningful public-sector work and grow into a trusted advisor to local governments. You will work directly with the firm’s senior leadership on the day-to-day legal work that keeps a local government running — from the ordinance on Monday night’s agenda to the contract that has to be signed by Friday.
Compensation:
$90,000
Responsibilities:* Keep files organized to make sure the most recent updates are accessible to other attorneys, paralegals, and staff
- Perform legal research, prepare for and attend hearings or other legal proceedings, and give general counsel under the supervision of senior associate attorneys
- Create legal documents, including correspondence, briefs, motions, pleadings, contracts, affidavits, and settlement agreements for contract negotiations and proceedings
- Collaborate with clients and senior associates and other staff to move cases toward resolution efficiently
- Assist clients in determining a proper solution to legal conflicts and determine the best course of action
What you will do:
- Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, policies, and intergovernmental agreements.
- Prepare for and attend council meetings, work sessions, and board hearings, including some evening meetings.
- Advise elected officials and staff on open meetings and open records compliance, procurement, zoning and land use, code enforcement, personnel, and ethics questions.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts — vendor, technology, real estate, lease, and event agreements.
- Research and write clear legal memoranda and opinions.
- Support litigation in state and federal court: pleadings, motions, discovery, and hearings.
- Work closely with city and county managers, clerks, department heads, and outside agencies.
Qualifications:* Ability to work with senior attorneys to best serve client needs and grow our client base
- Has a Juris Doctor (J.D. degree) from an accredited law school
- Exceptional communication skills and problem-solving skills needed in order to work with all levels of staff and our clients
- Member in good standing and actively involved with the ABA (American Bar Association)
- Successful completion of the bar exam
