About this role
At Warehaus, our accounting team plays an important role in keeping projects financially on track and supporting the people who bring them to life. We're looking for an experienced Project Accountant who understands the financial side of architecture, engineering, and construction projects and enjoys working closely with project managers and leadership.
If you're detail-oriented, comfortable managing competing priorities, and enjoy finding ways to improve processes, this is a role where your work will make a meaningful impact.
The role, at a glance
This position focuses on managing the financial aspects of our projects, from initial setup and contract compliance through billing, reporting, and closeout. You'll work closely with our CFO, Project Managers, and leadership team to monitor project performance, support profitability, and keep financial processes running smoothly.
You'll also contribute to general accounting activities and help identify opportunities to improve how we work.
What you'll do
- Review project contracts, verify financial requirements, and complete project setup in our ERP system
- Monitor project budgets, labor costs, and financial performance to identify potential profitability concerns
- Prepare project financial reports and assist Project Managers with budgeting and forecasting
- Manage project billing, including preparing invoices and required supporting documentation
- Track accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments
- Process project-related accounts payable and coordinate with the Accounting & HR Coordinator to resolve inquiries
- Monitor compliance with contract requirements, including certificates of insurance, lien waivers, and billing provisions
- Complete project financial closeouts and maintain accurate project accounting records
- Assist with general accounting activities, including reconciliations, financial reporting, and periodic compliance tasks
- Serve as a resource for project accounting functions within our ERP system, including accounts payable and receivable
- Collaborate with Finance, Project Managers, and leadership to improve accounting processes, reporting, and systems
What you'll bring
- 5+ years of professional accounting experience
- 2+ years of project accounting or related experience within the architecture, engineering, or construction industry
- Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and revenue recognition
- Knowledge of project accounting, contract compliance, and financial reporting requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with accounting or ERP systems
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, and communicate concerns effectively
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to navigate sensitive financial conversations professionally
- Ability to handle confidential financial and employee information with discretion
- A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset and interest in improving processes and systems
- Experience with Unanet ERP and/or Unanet CRM is a plus, but not required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field is preferred
What it's like here
- A mix of projects—from large-scale commercial and industrial facilities to renovations, historic preservation, and adaptive reuse
- Long-tenured leadership that supports growth and development
- Consistently strong onboarding feedback:
+ 100% of new hires agree their first 3 months matched their expectations
+ 100% say they feel like a valued member of their team
+ 100% are satisfied with the tools and technology provided
