The Distinguished Data Scientist will lead advanced analytics initiatives to solve complex business challenges by leveraging machine learning, predictive modeling, optimization and data visualization techniques. About the team

The Supply Chain Strategy team at Walmart leads long-term network planning through data-driven methods, advanced modeling, and cross-functional collaboration. They assess strategic locations, capacity, inventory flows, transportation, and capital investments. Partnering with Operations, Finance, and Technology, the team develops scalable analytical frameworks using Python, SQL, optimization, simulation, and AI.

Their insights support enterprise decisions on asset strategy, capacity expansion, fulfillment design, and network evolution. The team’s unified modeling approach, FALCON, integrates multi-dimensional data to optimize customer value, market share, and capital deployment, enabling Walmart to enhance supply chain efficiency and deliver sustained business value.What you'll do...

What you'll do:

• Analyze complex business problems using advanced data analytics, machine learning and optimization techniques to identify root causes and recommend effective solutions.
• Develop and implement predictive models and optimization algorithms to support strategic business initiatives and improve operational outcomes.
• Design and deliver clear, impactful data visualizations and narratives tailored to stakeholder needs, facilitating informed decision-making.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable data strategies and technology solutions.
• Mentor team members on analytical methods, model validation, and best practices to enhance overall data science capabilities.
• Monitor deployed models to ensure accuracy, sustainability, and alignment with business objectives.

What you'll bring:

• Extensive experience in advanced data analysis, machine learning, causal inference to solve complex business problems.
• Strong background and experience in mathematical optimization (such as mixed integer programming, greedy search and other heuristics)
• Proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques to create clear, impactful insights for stakeholders.
• Ability to translate business requirements into actionable analytics strategies aligned with organizational goals.
• Skilled in coding languages such as Python and SQL for developing and testing analytical models.
• Proven capability to mentor teams and communicate complex data insights effectively.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
