Title: Associate Product Manager, Private Markets
Department: Product Manager
R eporting to: VP, Director of Product Management
Location: New York, NY
Summary: VanEck is a privately held global asset management firm founded in 1955. We develop forward-looking, intelligently designed, active and ETF strategies that strengthen long-term portfolios. VanEck is building out a growing platform of private markets fund products focused on the late-stage private growth segment of the market.
The pipeline spans private drawdown funds, evergreen private funds, and registered evergreen funds (interval and tender offer structures) that give investors access to late-stage, pre-IPO growth companies. The work also includes distribution partnerships, sponsor and general partner relationships, and products co-developed with external managers. The team is small and the pace is fast.
Everyone executes.
This role exists because the volume of concurrent product work has exceeded what a lean team can manage without dedicated support. The right candidate will help drive new product launches from concept through go-live, coordinate across legal, compliance, operations, marketing, and technology, and keep complex workstreams moving in parallel.
They will spend as much time in spreadsheets and cross-functional meetings as they will thinking about product strategy.
What makes this role unusual is the requirement to operate fluently in two worlds: traditional, registered asset management, with its fund structures, transfer agents, custodians, fund administrators, regulatory filings, and compliance workflows, and private markets investing, with its capital call and drawdown mechanics, semi-liquid evergreen structures, general partner and sponsor relationships, and the operational realities of holding illiquid, privately held assets inside a fund wrapper.
Candidates who have only lived in one of these worlds will need to come up to speed quickly in the other. The ideal candidate has worked in both.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Includes the following; other duties may be assigned as needed:
Product Launch Execution
- Own the end-to-end coordination of new private fund launches \— drawdown, evergreen, and registered evergreen \— from initial scoping through live distribution, including workstream tracking, stakeholder alignment, and issue resolution.
- Maintain and update product roadmaps, launch timelines, and status trackers across a portfolio of concurrent initiatives spanning private drawdown funds, evergreen private funds, registered evergreen funds, and sponsor partnerships.
- Draft and manage product requirements, working with legal, compliance, operations, and technology teams to translate business objectives into executable specifications.
- Coordinate with transfer agents, fund administrators, custodians, and subscription and servicing platforms to ensure operational readiness ahead of each launch.
- Identify blockers early, escalate appropriately, and propose solutions rather than just surfacing problems.
Private Fund Operations
- Support the operational management of live private funds, including monitoring capital calls, drawdowns, and subscription and redemption cycles, coordinating with administrators and service providers on operational issues, and tracking product performance metrics.
- Evaluate new fund structures and product opportunities: assess structuring requirements, understand the applicable regulatory and operational processes, and develop internal recommendations on prioritization.
- Contribute to due diligence on new sponsor and general partner partnerships and on the underlying investment access they provide, including reviewing structuring requirements, assessing operational feasibility, and flagging compliance considerations.
- Maintain product documentation covering fund structures, subscription and liquidity mechanics, distribution mechanisms, and partner and sponsor details.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as the day-to-day coordination point between product, legal, compliance, marketing, operations, and technology on active initiatives.
- Prepare internal materials for leadership reviews, board presentations, and partner meetings, including status updates, product memos, and briefing documents.
- Support the sales and business development team with product knowledge, partner onboarding materials, and clear explanations of fund structures.
- Track the competitive landscape across private markets funds, evergreen and interval fund structures, and the broader effort to bring alternative investments to a wider set of investors, and surface relevant developments to the team.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated understanding of investment fund structures, including how funds are created, regulated, distributed, and administered. Familiarity with transfer agents, custodians, fund administrators, and fund operational workflows.
- Hands-on understanding of private markets fund mechanics: how drawdown funds take commitments and call and deploy capital, how evergreen funds handle subscriptions, redemptions, and liquidity, how registered evergreen structures such as interval and tender offer funds operate, and how private fund operations differ from daily-liquidity products.
- Experience coordinating complex, multi-stakeholder workstreams with competing timelines. This is a high-coordination role; organizational rigor matters as much as subject matter knowledge.
- Clear written and verbal communication. A significant portion of this role involves preparing documents for internal and external audiences, including senior leadership, partners, and regulators.
- Comfort with ambiguity. Many of the products and structures this role will touch are relatively new to the registered fund market. There is no playbook for most of it.
- Ability to work in office a minimum of 4 days per week.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance is preferred but other related degrees will be considered
- 3-6 years of applicable experience, with meaningful time spent in both traditional, registered asset management and private markets or alternative investments
- Series 7 or 65 licenses are preferred; ability to obtain licenses within first six months of employment is required
Compensation:
If this position will be performed in whole or in part in New York City, the base salary range is $100,000 to $140,000. Individual salaries may vary based on different factors including but not limited to, skills, experience, job-related knowledge, and location. Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with this position.
