Associate Attorney

Job Summary

Upper Michigan Law has been representing clients throughout Northern Michigan since 1975. We are a successful law firm with a reputation for practicing a variety of areas of the law.

We are presently seeking an Associate Attorney to join our team with an interest in practicing primarily in family law: handling divorces, custody, and post-judgment matters. The new attorney will also likely be handling workers' compensation matters, personal injury, and various other areas of the law.

Responsibilities

• Manage legal cases and support clients throughout the process with respect and attention to detail.
• Draft legal documents and provide legal counsel tailored to each matter.
• Attentive, patient communication with clients and opposing counsel.
• Prepare for trials and hearings, conduct or attend depositions, and advocate for clients in court.
• Effective case preparation and attentive client communication to help clients understand their options and support informed decisions.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform legal writing, litigation, legal advocacy, and case management.
• Strong communication skills for client interactions and legal proceedings.
• Readiness to prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, and trial work.
• Familiarity with family law, workers’ compensation, or civil litigation is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
