Position Title: Software Developer II

Department: 9073|RAC Support

Responsibilities:

The Software Developer II designs, develops, tests, implements, and maintains software applications and services supporting the technical requirements of the Coastal Information Management System (CIMS). Working in collaboration with senior technical staff, the Software Developer II contributes to the modernization and continued development of web applications, databases, APIs, and related software systems.

The position reports to the Program Manager for the Geospatial Data Management & Visualization team of the Regional Application Center at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, modernize, and maintain CIMS web and database applications and architecture using C#, .NET Framework / .NET Core, ASP.NET, JavaScript/Html/CSS, jQuery, Python, SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Visual Studio.
  • Design, develop, test, maintain software modules, APIs, web applications, databases, and integrations.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software application, database, integration, and production issues.
  • Implement and maintain Amazon Web Services or other cloud-based CI/CD, testing, and application deployment and production configurations.
  • Maintain source code repositories using Git and follow established version control, code review, and software development practices.
  • Collaborate with senior technical staff, project owners, project managers, and other stakeholders to define technical requirements, development tasks, and software solutions.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation for software applications, databases, APIs, configurations, and development processes.
  • Learn and apply established software development standards, best practices, and technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, IT, or related field.
  • 5+ years of software development experience.
  • Strong programming skills in C#, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework Core, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, Web and similar technologies and previous experience with web development, APIs, databases, web technologies, Git, and software testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience supporting Louisiana coastal protection, coastal management, environmental, geographic information systems (GIS), or related projects.
  • Experience working with state and/or federal partners.
  • Experience modernizing or migrating legacy software applications and databases to current technologies.
  • Experience with cloud-based application development and deployment, particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, teamwork, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with senior technical staff and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and apply them to evolving project requirements.
