About this role

Senior Electrical Engineer

Description:

The Senior Electrical Engineer leads the electrical design of ruggedized, engine-driven power generation and hybrid power systems for defense and commercial customers, and leads projects that take power electronics, embedded controls, and harness designs from concept through prototype, qualification, and production with a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, bench test, and document electrical products, systems, and subsystems from concept, through prototype, to final production
  • Design power electronics and PCB assemblies for AC-DC, DC-DC, and DC-AC power conversion, including high-current layout and thermal management of power components
  • Develop voltage regulation, engine speed governing, and load-response control loops for generator and power systems
  • Design EMI/EMC mitigation, grounding, transient and inrush suppression, and hardware-level protection that operates independently of firmware
  • Design and specify wiring harnesses and connectors, and ruggedize assemblies for shock, vibration, thermal, fuel, oil, water, and sand exposure
  • Develop structured, reusable embedded firmware, and integrate sensors, actuators, operator interfaces, and communication buses (CAN, SPI, I2C, RS-485)
  • Build and bring up prototypes, lead verification and qualification testing, and perform root cause analysis of lab and field failures
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-test practices; specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services
  • Lead electrical development projects as technical lead: translate customer requirements into robust, cost-effective designs, plan tasks and estimates, coordinate engineers and technicians, manage technical risk, and report status to program management and customers
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, systems engineering, and program management teams; communicate clearly with management and customers; mentor other engineers
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards and requirements, and adhere to all company safety protocols, including use of PPE where required

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading complex electrical design projects from concept to production, including planning, coordinating a team, and delivering to schedule and budget
  • Hands-on power electronics design experience (AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC inverters), including control, EMI/EMC, grounding, and transient protection
  • Embedded firmware development experience (e.g., C/C++ on microcontrollers) with serial communication buses
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer or equivalent ECAD tools for schematics and multilayer PCB layout
  • Extensive hands-on prototyping, soldering, debugging, and system-level testing experience with standard lab equipment
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects to schedule and budget
  • Excellent written and oral communication, technical writing, leadership, and mentoring skills
  • Must pass background check and drug screening

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working practical knowledge of AS9100; defense or aerospace industry experience
  • Able to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance
  • Formal project management experience or certification (e.g., PMP)
  • First principle understanding and practical experience with engine design and tuning
  • Experience with engine-driven generators or mobile electric power systems, including alternator selection, engine control, and EPA/CARB emissions compliance
  • Practical knowledge of designing and testing to MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-705, and UL 2200, including HALT/HASS
  • Experience with lithium-ion battery management systems and battery-generator hybrid systems
  • Experience with motor power systems and grid-tie/microgrid protection (anti-islanding, reverse-power)

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering or related technical field (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum of 8 years of electrical design experience, including significant power electronics experience
