Job Summary

The Billing Operations Analyst is responsible for monitoring and resolving billing data exceptions, maintaining system users and workflows, and tracking meter to cash activities through BPEM case management to ensure accurate and timely billing outcomes.

This position serves as the SAP subject matter expert for back office billing functions, troubleshooting system defects, leading UAT, and developing training materials and job aids for staff.

The Analyst also handles more advanced and critical billing operations — including RNG uploads, IP overpayment adjustments, and supports regulatory reporting, payment processing and audit requests — requiring a higher level of technical proficiency and independent judgment than entry-level billing roles.

**This position can be based in Denver, PA or Wilkes-Barre, PA.**

Duties & Responsibilities:

Billing Data Exceptions Administration and Monitoring:

  • Maintain BDEx user access, permissions, and recommend configuration changes across billing systems to ensure accurate workflow routing
  • Generate and monitor daily/weekly exception reports (Torch, BLADE) to identify billing anomalies, failed transactions, and data integrity issues; assess impacts and prioritize resolutions
  • Analyze billing exceptions to determine root cause (data, configuration, system defect or user error), select the appropriate resolution approach and prioritize work based on dollar, customer and bill-window impact
  • Identify recurring exception patterns and recommend process or system improvements to reduce future occurrences

Serve as SAP System SME:

  • Serve as the front-line subject matter expert for SAP billing modules used by back-office operations
  • Determine whether reported issues are system defects or process/training gaps, assess severity and business impact and recommend interim workarounds and resolution priority.
  • Design UAT scenarios for billing impacts, evaluate results, and recommend whether changes are ready for production from the billing perspective.
  • Develop and publish job aids and desk procedures that establish standards for billing staff to follow.
  • Deliver training sessions to new and existing staff on SAP billing processes and system functionality
  • Act as liaison between billing operations staff and IT on ECC and BOBJ system-related issues

Advanced Billing Operations:

  • Validate source Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) data against expected volumes and determine whether variances require correction or a hold upload. Process upload and ensure accuracy of transaction.
  • Identify, calculate, and process adjustments for Installment Plan (IP) overpayments and CAP credits
  • Handle escalated, non-routine billing transactions requiring specialized knowledge of billing systems and processes
  • Determine the appropriate calculation and treatment for non-standard billing scenarios not addressed by existing procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of SAP TMD and BMD data models; excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter, highly motivated individual, and a team player who adapts to a dynamic work environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to communicate effectively to both a technical and non-technical audience; ability to provide guidance on technical and project management skills with intra-department team members
  • Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects and meet deadlines; ability to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment
  • Ability to keep up to date on technology trends, developments and best practices; ability to read and understand technical manuals, functional specifications, and procedural documentation

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or associate degree with business, analytics, or financial concentration preferred
  • 2+ years of SAP ECC and/or related field experience preferred
  • Proven technical aptitude to leverage applications and software tools (SAP, BDEx, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint).
