Job Summary:

UFP Industries is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) who approaches quality as a software engineering discipline. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated testing solutions for our enterprise web applications.

The successful candidate will work closely with developers and product owners to build reliable, maintainable automated test suites and supporting test infrastructure.

This position requires strong software development skills and a deep understanding of application architecture, including backend services, integration points, and testability concerns.

The SDET will contribute to application quality by developing test frameworks, implementing automated tests, creating realistic test environments, and partnering with software development teams to improve system reliability throughout the software development lifecycle. This position is a full-time, onsite position, based out of Grand Rapids, MI (not a remote position).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks, tooling, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Design and implement automated test coverage for new features, existing functionality, and regression scenarios.
  • Create and maintain mocks, stubs, fakes, test doubles, and simulated services to enable reliable testing of complex application workflows.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and work to improve deployment confidence and release quality.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects and inconsistencies, ensuring they are addressed promptly.
  • Collaborate with developers, product owners, and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver quality feedback throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Conduct performance, load, and stress testing to ensure application scalability and reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing feedback on usability, functionality, and testability.
  • Leverage bug tracking and test management tools to manage test activities and report on test progress.
  • Continuously improve testing methodologies and drive innovation in the SDET function.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, emerging tools, and best practices in software test automation.

Mentor and support other team members on quality standards, testing strategies, and process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a software engineer, test automation engineer, SDET, or similar software development role.
  • Proficiency in primary programming language (C#).
  • Proficiency with modern web frameworks (e.g., ASP.NET Core/Blazor, React, or similar).
  • Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks (e.g., Playwright, bUnit, NUnit).
  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate software development (e.g. GitHub Copilot)
  • Strong knowledge of SDET methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Familiarity and experience with Agile/Scrum development processes.
  • Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git) and continuous integration tools (e.g., Azure Pipelines).
  • Preferred understanding of database technologies (SQL/Microsoft SQL Server, Progress ABL).
  • Preferred experience with Blazor and Blazor component libraries (e.g. MudBlazor).
  • Preferred familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure).
  • Preferred familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (CI/CD, Docker, etc.).

Certifications such as ISTQB are a plus.
