About the role

Turning Point IT is a small, growing managed service provider in Tempe. Our IT Specialists handle Tier 1 support. We need a Systems Engineer to be the escalation point above them: the person who takes the hard problems and solves them on their own, from root cause to fix, without someone handing over the answer.

You will also own our projects — migrations, implementations and infrastructure work — from planning through documentation. Projects are a big part of the role, but they are not all of it. Complex troubleshooting across client environments is just as important, and on a small team you will also pitch in on simpler Tier 1 tickets when the workload calls for it.

You will work directly with the owner, and you will be the person the team turns to when a ticket gets hard.

What you will own

  • Complex technical issues escalated from the support team — troubleshoot them independently, find the root cause and fix it for good
  • Helping with Tier 1 tickets when the team is busy
  • Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace tenant and mailbox migrations
  • Entra ID, Intune, Conditional Access and Defender for Office 365 rollouts
  • Windows Server migrations and moves to Azure (file shares, VPN, identity)
  • Network projects: UniFi, firewalls, site-to-site and client VPN, wireless
  • Scoping projects, writing the plan and the documentation, and mentoring the Tier 1 techs

Our stack

NinjaOne (RMM, ticketing, documentation), Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Defender, Azure, UniFi, Jamf, Bitwarden, PowerShell.

You should have

  • A track record of solving complex problems on your own across identity, email, networking, endpoints and servers
  • 4+ years in IT, including at least 2 as a Tier 2 tech, escalation point or project engineer (MSP preferred)
  • Migrations you personally ran end to end (M365 tenant/mailbox, server, or similar) — we will ask you to walk us through them
  • Strong Entra ID, Intune and Exchange Online skills
  • Solid networking: VLANs, DHCP/DNS, firewall rules, site-to-site and client VPN
  • Comfort supporting both Windows and macOS
  • Clear written documentation and the ability to explain a plan to a client

Nice to have

  • UniFi and Azure (VMs, storage, VPN gateway)
  • PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Google Workspace administration
  • Huntress, SentinelOne or similar security platforms; backup and DR
  • Microsoft, CompTIA or Cisco certifications

What we offer

  • $75,000–$90,000 based on experience
  • Paid time off
  • Real ownership of projects across many industries, with a direct line to the owner

This is not a help desk role, although you will help with Tier 1 work when needed. If you can take a hard problem nobody else could solve and see it through on your own, have run migrations and implementations yourself, and want to be the senior technical person on a small team, we would like to hear from you.
