Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Electronics Firmware Engineer to lead the design and development of downhole O&G products used in demanding environments. This role requires a hands-on engineer with expertise in both electronic hardware design
and embedded firmware development, capable of architecting solutions from concept through production.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing circuit boards and electronic assemblies from the ground up, developing embedded firmware for custom devices, and making critical technical decisions that influence product architecture and performance. Experience designing products for extreme environments, including high-temperature and high-vibration applications, is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Design analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic circuits and printed circuit assemblies (PCAs) from concept through production.
- Develop custom electronic hardware for industrial and downhole oil & gas applications.
- Create schematics, perform component selection, and support PCB layout activities.
- Conduct circuit simulation, prototype bring-up, debugging, and verification testing.
- Troubleshoot hardware issues during development, qualification, and manufacturing.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, test, and reliability teams to ensure robust product performance.
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for microcontroller-based products.
- Develop firmware architectures from the ground up for new product designs.
- Implement low-level drivers, communication protocols, control algorithms, and diagnostics.
- Perform firmware integration, debugging, and validation testing.
- Support hardware-software integration throughout the product lifecycle.
- Develop documentation, coding standards, and testing procedures for embedded systems.
- Develop and execute qualification test plans for products operating in harsh environments.
- Design and oversee testing related to environmental stress screening and reliability and life-cycle validation
- Analyze test results and implement design improvements to ensure long-term product reliability.
- Serve as the primary technical authority for hardware and/or firmware development activities.
- Drive projects from concept through release while balancing technical and business objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in electronic product development.
- Demonstrated experience designing electronic circuitry and PCAs from the ground up.
- Strong experience developing embedded firmware for new products rather than solely maintaining existing codebases.
- Experience with schematic capture, board bring-up, and hardware debugging.
- Experience with embedded C/C++ firmware development.
- Proven ability to independently make technical design decisions and establish product direction.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- MUST be presently located in the Houston, TX area
