KBR is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead and grow a high-performing software engineering organization supporting national security customers across cyber, electronic warfare, intelligence, communications, and modeling & simulation mission areas.

This position is responsible for establishing the vision, strategy, and execution approach for a team of software engineers while driving adoption of reusable frameworks, shared services, and engineering practices that accelerate capability delivery across the organization.

The successful candidate will be a leader of people first, creating an environment where engineers can focus on solving mission problems rather than repeatedly building boilerplate solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and grow a software engineering organization of approximately 8-12 engineers.
  • Establish and communicate the vision, strategy, and priorities for software capabilities across the organization.
  • Drive adoption of reusable software frameworks, shared services, DevSecOps practices, automated testing, and common data and API standards.
  • Partner with software architects and technical leaders to guide framework reuse, architecture tradeoffs, technical debt reduction, and technology investments.
  • Evaluate and scale AI-enabled development tools and agentic engineering workflows.
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain high-performing software engineering talent.
  • Establish engineering standards, development practices, and organizational processes that improve software quality and delivery speed.
  • Build trusted relationships with government technical leads, branch chiefs, and mission stakeholders.
  • Support customer engagements and help translate mission challenges into software strategy and investment priorities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, responsible risk-taking, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting software-intensive programs.
  • Demonstrated experience leading software engineering teams and developing technical personnel.
  • Experience managing direct reports, including hiring, performance management, and employee development.
  • Experience establishing engineering vision, organizational priorities, and execution strategies.
  • Understanding of software architecture concepts, framework reuse, technical debt management, and modern software development practices.
  • Experience working directly with government customers and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to gain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related discipline.
  • Prior military service or direct support to military operations.
  • Experience supporting cyber, electronic warfare, intelligence, communications, modeling & simulation, or other national security mission areas.
  • Experience leading development of reusable software frameworks, shared platforms, or enterprise software capabilities.
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps, automated testing, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience growing engineering organizations and establishing standards across multiple teams.
  • Experience supporting customer engagements, technology roadmaps, and strategic investment planning.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
