Summary:
The Designer II independently performs routine-to-moderately complex drafting and design assignments for subsea products and projects. This position develops drawings, layouts, models, and supporting documentation; coordinates technical interfaces; and helps resolve design and manufacturing issues in accordance with company, industry, and project requirements.
POSITION DUTIES:
- Develop detailed drawings, assemblies, layouts, and 3D models for routine-to-moderately complex equipment and structures.
- Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, and related data to determine design factors such as size, arrangement, clearances, tolerances, and materials.
- Apply dimensioning, tolerancing, weld symbols, bearing fits, finishes, coatings, and quality requirements.
- Develop design concepts and evaluate them for manufacturability, cost, reliability, serviceability, and project requirements.
- Resolve routine drawing, fit-up, and manufacturing issues and recommend practical design changes.
- Perform independent checks of standard drawings and provide constructive feedback to drafting personnel.
- Support design reviews, prototype development, testing, assembly, installation, and documentation updates.
- Coordinate design interfaces with engineers, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Procurement, and project personnel.
- Maintain accurate CAD and Product Data Management records and communicate potential impacts to schedule, scope, and quality.
- Other duties, as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree or equivalent technical-school education is preferred.
- At least 4 years of drafting or design experience in a related field are required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and 2D and 3D CAD software is required.
- Experience producing detailed mechanical or structural drawings, assemblies, and layouts is required.
- Working knowledge of dimensioning, tolerancing, weld symbols, materials, and manufacturing practices.
- Ability to work independently on standard assignments and coordinate multiple priorities.
Additional Desired Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience with AutoCAD, DraftSight, SolidWorks, or comparable CAD software.
- Experience with mechanical, structural, electrical, or hydraulic oilfield products; subsea experience is preferred.
- Experience with Product Data Management systems and controlled drawing-release processes.
- Ability to check routine drawings and support the development of junior drafting personnel.
Work Environment:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, listen and speak.
- Frequent need for manual dexterity - using hands, fingers, and arms to push, pull, reach, grab, hold, and lift.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time.
- Frequent use of PC is required.
- Wear steel-toe shoes, safety glasses and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed in safety zone areas.
