Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and licensed Senior Electrical Engineer with a background in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) consulting engineering. In this role, you will lead the electrical design of complex commercial, institutional, or mission-critical building projects, mentor junior engineering staff, manage client relationships, and oversee projects from concept through construction administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Investigation: Perform existing condition surveys as required. Develop one-line diagrams for existing distribution systems to include primary distribution and utility services. Utilize utility bills to determine demand and review service size. Investigate communications systems, FA systems, lighting controls, clock systems, PA systems, etc. for each project as required.
  • System Design: Lead the design of building electrical distribution systems, low-voltage (LV) systems, fire alarm systems, emergency power/generators, interior/exterior lighting, and lighting control systems.
  • Engineering Calculations: Prepare and review complex electrical calculations, including load calculations, feeder/service sizing, short-circuit analysis, and photometric lighting calculations.
  • Construction Documents & Specifications: Develop comprehensive construction drawings (single-line diagrams, power/lighting plans, details) using AutoCAD and Revit, alongside technical specifications and cost estimates.
  • Interdisciplinary Coordination: Coordinate electrical requirements seamlessly with mechanical, plumbing, structural, and architectural teams, attending client and job site meetings.
  • Construction Administration: Perform site surveys, review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, evaluate contractor change orders, and provide field observation and commissioning support.
  • Project & Team Leadership: Manage project schedules, deliverable milestones, and budgets. Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, review their design work, and support their professional development.
  • Client & Business Development: Serve as a technical point of contact for clients, assist with proposal writing, and help drive firm standards and quality control.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Experience: Electrical engineering within an MEP consulting or building design firm.
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred, but not required.
  • Technical Software Proficiency:
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD with some experience in Revit preferred.
  • Experience with power system analysis and design software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or EasyPower is beneficial.
  • Codes & Standards: In-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA, IEEE, IBC, IECC, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and local/state building codes.
  • Soft Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities, leadership presence, problem-solving skills, and the capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently.
