About this role
HR Generalist, Corporate Office (Fort Worth, TX)
Tidewater is a leading provider of custom logistics solutions to industrial clients. Our dedicated team strives each day to deliver superior service and operate as an integral part of our customers' supply chain. Our expertise lies in handling sand, fertilizer, scrap metal, steel coils, slabs, pipe, petroleum liquids, and other bulk commodities.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced HR Generalist to join our corporate office in Fort Worth, Texas. This hands-on role is the company's HR function for the corporate office and our terminals across the country: payroll and benefits, employee relations, unemployment and workers' compensation claims, and multi-state compliance. Terminal managers lead hiring at their sites, and this role supports them with recruiting as needed.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and discreet, can work through an unusual case and recommend a way forward, and takes pride in getting things done.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Process weekly payroll in Paycom for corporate and all terminal locations, ensuring accuracy of hours, deductions, and timely submission.
· Administer employee benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, and 401(k)), including enrollments, changes, carrier and broker coordination, and annual Open Enrollment.
· Manage recruiting for corporate office positions from posting through offer.
· Support terminal managers, who lead hiring at their own sites. As needed, post openings, screen resumes, coordinate interviews, and prepare offer letters.
· Run onboarding for all locations: new-hire paperwork, I-9/E-Verify, background checks, pre-employment drug testing, and orientation.
· Serve as the point of contact for employee questions on HR policies, pay, and benefits, and resolve them promptly.
· Advise terminal managers on employee relations, including performance issues, discipline, conflict resolution, and terminations.
· Conduct investigations into employee misconduct or policy violations, document findings, and recommend action.
· Manage unemployment claims: respond to state agency notices, assemble documentation, and represent the company at appeal hearings.
· Manage workers' compensation claims with the carrier, terminal managers, and injured employees, including return-to-work and modified duty. Contest claims where the facts support it.
· Respond to agency charges and audits (EEOC, DOL, state agencies) and work with outside counsel on disputes and litigation.
· Research employment law and HR practice across the states where Tidewater operates (Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Louisiana). Work out non-standard cases and bring recommendations to senior leadership.
· Maintain employee records, HRIS data, the Employee Handbook, and HR policies; prepare HR reports for leadership.
· Keep the company compliant with federal and state employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and required postings and filings.
· Travel to terminal locations as needed to support local teams.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Strong knowledge of HR best practices and current federal and state employment laws.
· Working knowledge of payroll, benefits, and 401(k) administration.
· Experience managing unemployment claims and hearings and workers' compensation claims.
· Ability to research an unfamiliar HR issue, apply the law of the state involved, and turn it into a clear recommendation.
· Proficient in HRIS and payroll systems; Paycom experience strongly preferred.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
· Strong organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail; able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with employees, managers, vendors, and agencies at all levels.
· Ability to use independent judgment and maintain strict confidentiality.
· SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a plus.
