About this role
Director of Nursing (DON) – Skilled Nursing/Long Term Care - REQUIRED TO BE AN RN
Southern Hills Rehabilitation Center 5170 S. Vandalia Ave., Tulsa, OK 74135
Salary: $90,000–$110,000 annually, based on experience On-Call: Approximately 1 week every 4–5 weeks Average Census: 73 | 106 Licensed Beds
RN Leadership
Support: RN ADON + additional RN leadership rotation
Southern Hills Rehabilitation Center is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (RN) to lead our clinical team.
We understand that a Director of Nursing cannot effectively oversee clinical operations, develop staff, maintain compliance, and drive quality outcomes if they are routinely being pulled to work the floor. This is a true nursing leadership position.
Our DON is not expected to routinely work the floor during their on-call week and would only be asked to step into direct floor coverage in an absolute emergency. You will also have the support of an RN Assistant Director of Nursing and additional RN leadership participating in the rotation.
We are looking for a strong clinical leader who knows skilled nursing, understands the challenges of long-term care, and can provide both accountability and support to the nursing team.
What You'll
Oversee
- Overall clinical operations and quality of nursing services
- Nursing department leadership, accountability, and staff development
- Resident care and clinical outcomes
- State and federal regulatory compliance
- Survey readiness and plans of correction
- Infection prevention and quality assurance initiatives
- Nursing policies, procedures, and standards of care
- Staffing oversight and collaboration with nursing leadership
- Clinical documentation and resident care planning
- Collaboration with the Administrator, physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team
- Recruitment, retention, coaching, and development of nursing staff
What We're Looking For
- Current Oklahoma RN license in good standing required
- Long-term care/skilled nursing experience is required
- Previous DON, ADON, or comparable nursing leadership experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of state and federal skilled nursing regulations
- Experience with surveys, clinical compliance, and quality improvement
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to hold a team accountable while building a positive nursing culture
- Organized, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of clinical operations
Why Southern Hills?
We want our DON focused on leading the clinical department—not functioning as routine floor coverage.
With an average census of approximately 73 residents in a 106-bed licensed facility, an RN ADON, and additional RN leadership support, you will have a team around you rather than being expected to carry the clinical operation alone.
The on-call rotation is approximately one week every 4–5 weeks, providing a more manageable leadership rotation.
Salary: $90,000–$110,000 annually, depending on experience.
If you're an experienced long-term care nursing leader looking for a DON opportunity where you can focus on clinical leadership, quality, your team, and your residents, we would love to speak with you.
