Director of Information Technology

Location: Onsite in Meeker, CO
Our client is seeking an experienced and collaborative Information Technology leader to oversee and advance the technology environment of their small, rural Critical Access Hospital.
This is a hands-on, onsite leadership role responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and effective use of IT infrastructure, EHR/EMR systems, clinical technologies, cybersecurity, and related services that support patient care and hospital operations.
The ideal candidate will bring healthcare IT leadership experience, strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work closely with physicians, clinical staff, operational leaders, and executive leadership in a resource-conscious rural healthcare environment.
Essential Functions
- Provide leadership and oversight for our client’s information technology environment, including infrastructure, networks, systems, applications, telecommunications, cybersecurity, clinical technologies, and end-user services.
- Provide leadership and oversight for Electronic Health Record/Electronic Medical Record (EHR/EMR) systems and related clinical applications, including implementation, optimization, upgrades, integrations, interfaces, system performance, and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, clinical caregivers, providers, Clinical Informatics, and operational leaders to identify technology needs, evaluate clinical workflows, resolve system issues, and improve the effective use of EHR/EMR and other clinical technologies.
- Evaluate strategic IT, EHR/EMR, and clinical technology needs and initiatives and provide recommendations to the CEO and Senior Leadership regarding system improvements, technology investments, risks, priorities, and opportunities.
- Develop, manage, and continuously improve our client’s information security and technology risk program to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of organizational and patient information and ensure compliance with applicable policies, contractual obligations, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, assess, prioritize, and communicate technology and cybersecurity risks affecting hospital operations, patient information, clinical systems, infrastructure, vendors, and third-party services, and advise leadership regarding appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Oversee healthcare interoperability and electronic data exchange, including system interfaces, Health Information Exchange (HIE), third-party integrations, and other technologies supporting the secure exchange and availability of patient information.
- Oversee the reliability, availability, performance, lifecycle, and security of our client’s technology infrastructure and maintain appropriate disaster recovery, business continuity, backup/recovery, downtime, and technology incident-response capabilities.
- Lead major IT and clinical technology projects and manage strategic technology partners, including EHR/EMR vendors, managed service providers, consultants, telecommunications providers, and other vendors, with responsibility for planning, performance, escalation, implementation, and technology lifecycle needs.
- Lead and support Information Technology staff and promote collaboration across IT, Clinical Informatics, clinical departments, administrative departments, and organizational leadership, while participating in strategic planning, budgeting, technology prioritization, and other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Security, Health Informatics, Information Management, or a related field required.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- At least four (4) years of progressive experience in an IT leadership role.
- Previous information technology leadership experience in a hospital or healthcare setting required.
- Experience supporting or overseeing EHR/EMR systems and clinical applications required.
- Experience working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, clinical caregivers, providers, Clinical Informatics, and operational leadership preferred.
- Experience with healthcare interoperability, interfaces, HIE, cybersecurity, infrastructure, vendor management, and major technology projects preferred.
- Previous experience with IT in a hospital setting required.
