About this role

River Stone Management

River Stone Management LLC is a Houston-based multifamily property management company overseeing residential apartment communities throughout the Greater Houston area.

We are seeking an experienced, Texas-licensed attorney to establish a long-term professional relationship with our company and provide ongoing legal support for routine business operations, real estate matters, regulatory compliance, municipal citations, and litigation.

This is not a traditional full-time position. We are looking for a dependable legal professional who can serve as outside general counsel on an as-needed basis, providing practical, responsive, and cost-effective legal guidance.

Key Responsibilities

Real Estate & Property Management

  • Provide legal advice related to multifamily property management and Texas landlord-tenant laws.
  • Review and prepare management agreements, vendor contracts, lease-related documents, and legal notices.
  • Assist with resident disputes, lease enforcement, property liabilities, and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise management regarding property operations and legal risk mitigation.

Municipal Citations & Code Enforcement

  • Represent the company in municipal code enforcement matters, citations, and related disputes.
  • Assist with city inspections, alleged code violations, administrative proceedings, and municipal court hearings.
  • Communicate and negotiate with city officials, prosecutors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Advise on responding to recurring inspections, enforcement actions, and potential disputes involving city departments.
  • Provide representation in Houston, Pasadena, and surrounding municipalities as needed.

Business & Commercial Litigation

  • Handle or assist with business disputes, contract disagreements, vendor claims, and commercial litigation.
  • Draft and respond to demand letters, legal notices, settlement proposals, and other legal correspondence.
  • Represent the company in litigation, negotiations, mediation, and court proceedings when necessary.
  • Evaluate potential legal claims, defenses, liabilities, and settlement opportunities.

General Corporate Legal

Support

  • Provide ongoing legal advice regarding business operations, contractual obligations, and liability matters.
  • Assist with employment-related legal questions and company policies.
  • Review legal correspondence and business agreements.
  • Coordinate with bankruptcy, real estate, or other specialized counsel when necessary.
  • Work directly with company leadership to provide timely legal guidance and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Active Texas law license in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant legal experience preferred.
  • Experience in real estate law, business litigation, commercial disputes, or corporate representation.
  • Experience representing multifamily property management companies, apartment owners, or real estate businesses strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with municipal code enforcement, city citations, and municipal court proceedings is highly desirable.
  • Experience practicing in Harris County and surrounding jurisdictions preferred.
  • Strong legal research, drafting, negotiation, and litigation skills.
  • Ability to provide clear, practical advice to management and respond promptly to time-sensitive matters.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing assignments on an as-needed basis.

Compensation & Engagement Structure

We are seeking a flexible independent legal services arrangement, with the opportunity to establish a long-term relationship as our business continues to grow.

We are open to hourly billing, flat-fee arrangements for specific matters, or other mutually agreed-upon fee structures.

Work will be assigned based on the company's legal needs, with fees and scope discussed and approved in advance. No minimum number of hours is guaranteed.
