Position Summary

The Product Manager owns the strategy, product and service performance, and lifecycle of the permanent marking technology portfolio. The role converts customer, application, market, regulatory, and competitive insight into portfolio priorities, product roadmaps, market requirements, business cases, positioning, pricing, and go-to-market plans.

The portfolio may include industrial laser marking, dot peen, scribe, and related controllers, software, accessories, workstations, integration capabilities, and services. The Product Manager aligns global and regional teams to deliver scalable, production-ready marking and traceability solutions that improve customer throughput, quality, compliance, reliability, and total cost of ownership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Portfolio Strategy and Product Ownership

  • Manage and optimize revenue, gross margin, market position, adoption, and profitability of the assigned product and service portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain product strategies and multi-year technology and product roadmaps aligned with business objectives, customer workflows, industry requirements, and market opportunities.
  • Prioritize new products, enhancements, platform investments, cost-reduction opportunities, and lifecycle actions using business value, customer impact, risk, and operational feasibility.
  • Lead strategic pricing, value positioning, and margin improvement recommendations with Finance, Sales, Operations, and leadership.
  • Develop business cases, profitability analyses, and management reports to support investment and portfolio decisions.

Customer, Application, and Competitive Insight

  • Build a fact-based understanding of permanent identification and traceability applications, production workflows, substrates, mark-quality requirements, automation needs, safety and regulatory drivers, emerging technologies, and competitor offerings.
  • Partner with customers, regional Sales, distributors, integrators, Applications Engineering, and Service to capture and validate Voice of Customer and Voice of Distributor through interviews, site visits, sample evaluations, win/loss reviews, and field feedback.
  • Translate insight into prioritized market requirements and measurable outcomes for mark quality, cycle time, reliability, integration, usability, safety, compliance, and total cost of ownership.
  • Maintain competitive intelligence across products, software, integration models, channels, pricing, services, and customer experience; communicate implications for strategy and roadmap priorities.

Product Development and Lifecycle Management

  • Own Product Management deliverables in the new product development process, including charter, market requirements, business case, prioritization, launch readiness, and post-completion review.
  • Define target customers, use cases, application requirements, commercial assumptions, success criteria, and desired outcomes; partner with Engineering and Applications Engineering to translate them into technical requirements and production-ready solutions.
  • Lead early-stage opportunity framing and gate preparation, then support execution through development, validation, launch, growth, maturity, migration, and end-of-life.
  • Evaluate and incorporate integration readiness for industrial controls, communications, machine vision, data connectivity, software, safety systems, and customer automation environments.
  • Monitor quality, warranty, service, supply, field performance, application results, and customer feedback; recommend corrective actions and continuous improvements.
  • Develop phase-in, phase-out, obsolescence, and discontinuation plans that protect customers, channel partners, inventory, serviceability, and financial performance.

Commercialization and Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead go-to-market planning and launch readiness for marking systems, controllers, software, accessories, workstations, integration options, and related services.
  • Partner with Marketing to define positioning, value propositions, messaging, launch plans, and required collateral; Product Management owns strategy and message while Marketing owns asset creation and deployment.
  • Enable Sales, Service, Applications Engineering, Customer Service, integrators, and distributors through train-the-trainer content, application guidance, product expertise, competitive positioning, and escalation support.
  • Support strategic customer engagements and complex opportunities as the product subject-matter expert; routine quotations, order processing, project execution, and day-to-day technical support remain with the appropriate functions.
  • Build stakeholder alignment, influence without direct authority, document decisions, and escalate risks, dependencies, and trade-offs.
