Job description

About this role

Teleion is Looking for a DevOps Project Manager to Join our Team!

We are hiring a DevOps Project Manager to lead a GitHub consolidation and migration program and establish strong, security-first governance.

This role will lead a structured review of the organization's GitHub environment, establish clear ownership and access, apply security best practices, and plan and run a migration to a modern, well-governed GitHub setup.

The ideal candidate combines hands-on GitHub administration depth with strong project management: able to run discovery, make risk-based decisions, and coordinate engineering, security and business stakeholders through a multi-phase program.

Key responsibilities

------------------------

Discovery and inventory

  • Build a complete inventory of GitHub organizations, accounts, repositories, forks, gists, packages, Actions workflows and GitHub Apps/OAuth integrations.
  • Map repository visibility and align them with organizational policy.
  • Identify owners, active contributors, outside collaborators, teams and access levels; identify repositories for archival or retirement.
  • Trace dependencies between repos, pipelines, deploy keys, webhooks and downstream systems so nothing breaks during migration.

Data security and sensitive data discovery

  • Lead security reviews using secret and sensitive-data scanning tools, following industry best practices.
  • Define and run processes for triaging and remediating security findings with repository owners.
  • Maintain documentation and audit trails for security and compliance decisions.
  • Partner with Security, Legal and Compliance on licensing, data classification and data-handling policies.

Migration planning and execution

  • Define the target-state structure: organizations or enterprise layout, naming, team design, visibility defaults and repository templates.
  • Produce a phased migration plan with waves, cutover windows, rollback plans and communication schedules.
  • Run migrations (for example GitHub Enterprise Importer, gh CLI, or API scripts), preserving history, issues, PRs and CI/CD where required.
  • Decide per repository whether to migrate, archive, consolidate or retire, with stakeholder sign-off.
  • Validate each wave: access, pipelines, integrations and branch protections working as expected.

Governance and ongoing management

  • Establish access policies: SSO/SAML, least-privilege roles, team-based permissions and outside-collaborator rules.
  • Configure guardrails such as branch protection and rulesets, required reviews, secret scanning, push protection, Dependabot and code scanning.
  • Write and socialize standards for repo creation, visibility, ownership (CODEOWNERS) and lifecycle/archival.
  • Hand off a sustainable operating model with documentation, runbooks and reporting.

Project and stakeholder management

  • Own scope, timeline, budget, RAID log and status reporting for the program.
  • Coordinate engineering teams, security, IT and business owners; run working sessions and steering updates.
  • Translate technical findings into clear risk summaries and decisions for non-technical leaders.

Required qualifications

---------------------------

  • 5+ years in DevOps, platform engineering or technical project/program management, with 3+ years focused on GitHub.
  • Hands-on GitHub organization or enterprise administration: teams, roles, permissions, SSO/SAML, audit logs, rulesets and repository settings.
  • Led at least one significant GitHub migration or consolidation (for example, multiple orgs into one enterprise, or Bitbucket/GitLab/Azure DevOps to GitHub).
  • Practical experience with secret and sensitive-data scanning across git history, and with remediation workflows.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD, especially GitHub Actions, and how pipelines, runners, secrets and environments are affected by migration.
  • Comfortable scripting or using the GitHub REST/GraphQL APIs and gh CLI to inventory and report at scale.
  • Proven project management skills: planning, risk management, status reporting and leading cross-functional work without direct authority.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with both engineers and executives.

Preferred qualifications

----------------------------

  • GitHub certifications (GitHub Administration, GitHub Advanced Security, GitHub Actions) or equivalent.
  • PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM or similar project management certification.
  • Experience with GitHub Advanced Security, including secret scanning custom patterns and push protection.
  • Background in regulated environments (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR) and data classification.
  • Familiarity with open-source licensing and open-source program practices.
  • Experience running large-scale repository migrations.
  • This is a full time role and Teleion offers full benefits, PTO, holiday, 401(k). See how other employees have reviewed us on Glassdoor.

Base salary range ($100,000 - $180,000) depending on experience.
