Job description
About this role
We are hiring a Senior Systems Engineer on behalf of our client, a well-established organization in San Antonio. This is a direct-hire role: you will join the client as a full-time employee and own their IT infrastructure end to end.
You will be the senior escalation point for servers, networking, storage, and end-user systems, lead the client’s move to the cloud, and serve as the trusted technical advisor to staff and leadership.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior escalation point for day-to-day infrastructure operations, handling Level 2 and Level 3 support for servers, networking, storage, and end-user systems.
- Troubleshoot complex issues beyond help desk scope and resolve root causes, not just symptoms.
- Design, maintain, and secure Windows and Linux servers, Active Directory, and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Manage virtualization platforms (VMware and/or Hyper-V).
- Configure and maintain firewalls, switches, VPNs, and Wi-Fi.
- Enforce security best practices, including patching, endpoint protection, MFA, and access controls.
- Lead the cloud migration roadmap: assess the on-premises environment and recommend a strategy across Azure, AWS, and/or Microsoft 365.
- Plan and execute migrations of workloads, identity, email, and file storage with minimal business disruption.
- Implement and regularly test backup, disaster recovery, and monitoring solutions to maintain uptime.
- Proactively identify risks and document systems, configurations, and procedures.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for staff and leadership.
- Manage vendors and licensing, support hardware and software purchasing decisions, and align technology investments with company goals.
- Must-have qualifications 7+ years of experience in systems administration or systems engineering, including 3+ years at a senior or escalation level.
- Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server and Linux administration.
- Deep knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Experience administering VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Working knowledge of enterprise networking: firewalls, switching, routing, VLANs, VPNs, and wireless.
- Proven experience planning and executing migrations to Azure, AWS, and/or Microsoft 365.
- Experience implementing backup, disaster recovery, and monitoring solutions.
- Solid understanding of security practices, including patch management, endpoint protection, MFA, and access control.
- Strong documentation habits and the ability to explain technical topics to non-technical staff and leadership.
- Ability to work onsite in San Antonio, Texas, and to support occasional after-hours maintenance or outages.
- TechHuman is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace.
- All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression), age, national origin, citizenship status, disability, genetic information, marital status, military status, protected veteran status, or any other status protected under applicable federal, state, or local law.
