Staff Technical Program Manager
Hybrid, Carlsbad, CA
Full Time, Direct Hire
$130,000–$175,000/year+ 30% target bonus + equity
We are seeking a Staff Technical Program Manager to lead complex connected-device programs from concept and design through manufacturing and mass production.
This is an individual contributor role requiring a strong combination of technical hardware knowledge and program leadership. You won't personally design every component, but you must understand the technology well enough to engage credibly with hardware and firmware engineers, identify technical risks, ask informed questions, and challenge assumptions.
You'll work across engineering teams in Carlsbad and British Columbia and with overseas ODM and manufacturing partners to drive programs from concept through EVT, DVT, PVT, NPI, manufacturing ramp, and launch.
What You'll Do
- Lead hardware programs from concept through EVT, DVT, PVT, NPI, manufacturing ramp, mass production, and post-launch support.
- Own schedules, milestones, dependencies, risks, engineering actions, BOM readiness, build plans, and material planning.
- Drive execution across hardware, firmware, RF, mechanical, industrial design, software, cloud, test, and manufacturing teams.
- Participate in technical and design reviews, identify risks, challenge assumptions, and drive issues through resolution.
- Manage ODMs, contract manufacturers, overseas engineering partners, and factory builds.
- Coordinate engineering samples, testing, Alpha/Beta issues, build readiness, and regulatory certification.
- Partner with PLM and other stakeholders on product roadmap and development planning.
- Improve product-development processes and overall program execution.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hardware technical program management, device program management, hardware engineering/program leadership, or related experience.
- Experience taking complex electronic products through EVT, DVT, PVT, NPI, manufacturing ramp, and mass production.
- Strong technical understanding of hardware development, including PCBs/schematics, power/battery systems, firmware integration, RF, mechanical systems, and product testing.
- Ability to engage credibly in detailed technical discussions with hardware and firmware engineers.
- Strong ownership of schedules, dependencies, technical risks, engineering builds, and issue resolution.
- Experience working with ODMs, contract manufacturers, and overseas manufacturing partners.
- Ability to influence teams, push back when necessary, and drive results without direct authority.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working across cultures, locations, and time zones.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Consumer electronics, IoT, smart-home, connected-device, or other high-volume hardware experience.
- Experience delivering multiple hardware products into mass production.
- Programming or scripting experience is a plus.
- Mandarin language skills are a plus but not required.
What Will Make You Successful
You're technically credible enough to earn the trust of engineers while being a strong enough program leader to drive the entire product forward. You take ownership rather than simply tracking tasks, are comfortable challenging assumptions, and can navigate ambiguity when hardware programs don't go according to plan.
- This is a global hardware organization, so flexibility for occasional evening calls with teams in Asia and occasional travel is expected.
