About this role
THE OPPORTUNITY
This role is centered on managing and growing Taussig Landscape's existing landscape maintenance customer base. Your first responsibility is to build strong customer relationships, protect account retention, and identify profitable opportunities to provide additional value to our clients.
You'll regularly visit properties, evaluate their needs, recommend improvements, and sell higher-margin enhancements such as turfgrass services, landscape improvements, irrigation upgrades, drainage solutions, mulch, and seasonal color. We want someone who sees opportunities others miss and knows how to turn those opportunities into valuable solutions for our customers.
Turfgrass services will be a primary focus throughout the year, with holiday lighting becoming a major sales priority in the fall. You'll manage these seasonal opportunities while continuing to care for existing accounts and develop long-term customer relationships.
This position works closely with our production managers and crews. Every sale creates a commitment that our team must deliver on. You'll be responsible for selling the right work at the right price, setting clear expectations, and ensuring our production team has the information needed to execute successfully.
We're looking for a high-capacity individual who takes ownership, solves problems, communicates proactively, and understands that great sales are built on trust, profitability, and follow-through.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Existing Customer Management & Retention
- Own relationships with an assigned portfolio of landscape maintenance and turfgrass customers.
- Proactively communicate with customers to understand their needs, evaluate service quality, and strengthen long-term relationships.
- Conduct regular property walkthroughs to identify service concerns, maintenance needs, and opportunities for improvement.
- Address customer concerns promptly and take ownership until a satisfactory resolution is reached.
- Manage contract renewals and pricing adjustments proactively, protecting retention and account profitability.
- Identify at-risk accounts early and develop a plan to resolve concerns before customers consider leaving.
- Maintain accurate customer records, communication history, follow-up tasks, and account opportunities.
2. Profitable Enhancement Sales
- Make enhancement sales a regular part of managing every customer relationship.
- Identify, recommend, estimate, and sell improvements that provide meaningful value to customers and strong margins for Taussig Landscape.
- Look beyond the current scope of service to identify opportunities in turfgrass, lawn care, irrigation, drainage, plantings, mulch, seasonal color, and other landscape improvements.
- Take a consultative approach: understand the customer's goals, explain the options, recommend solutions, and confidently ask for the sale.
- Follow up consistently on proposals until the customer makes a decision.
- Prioritize quality revenue and profitability rather than selling work simply to increase top-line sales.
- Build a pipeline of enhancement opportunities through regular property visits and proactive customer communication.
3. Turfgrass & Seasonal Sales
- Develop turfgrass sales through existing customer relationships and new opportunities where appropriate.
- Understand customer lawn concerns and recommend practical solutions that fit the property, budget, and desired results.
- Drive holiday lighting sales during the fall, including customer outreach, estimating, proposals, follow-up, and coordination with installation teams.
- Manage seasonal sales priorities without neglecting ongoing customer service and account responsibilities.
4. Production Coordination & Problem Solving
- Coordinate sold work with production managers to ensure accurate scopes, realistic schedules, and successful execution.
- Provide complete job details, customer expectations, site information, and other necessary documentation before work is scheduled.
- Communicate proactively when schedules, scope, or customer expectations change.
- Work collaboratively with production leadership to resolve service issues and maintain customer confidence.
- Respect crew capacity and operational priorities when selling and scheduling work.
- Follow through after projects are completed to confirm customer satisfaction and identify any remaining needs.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Success in this position means customers stay with Taussig, existing accounts become more valuable, and our production teams receive well-planned, profitable work they can execute successfully.
Performance will be measured by:
- Customer retention: Keeping existing customers satisfied and renewing accounts at appropriate pricing.
- Enhancement revenue: Consistently identifying and closing additional work within the existing customer base.
- Gross margin: Selling accurately scoped work at pricing that supports company profitability.
- Turfgrass growth: Developing recurring and additional turfgrass service opportunities.
- Holiday lighting sales: Achieving seasonal sales goals while delivering a strong customer experience.
- Customer service: Timely communication, reliable follow-through, and effective problem resolution.
- Production coordination: Clear scopes, accurate estimates, realistic commitments, and strong collaboration with operations.
New customer acquisition is encouraged, but the first priority is maximizing the value of the relationships and accounts Taussig already has.
