Principal Product Manager - Embedded Systems & Firmware

We're partnering with a growth-stage Series C tech start up to hire a Principal Product Manager to lead product strategy and execution for a portfolio of technically complex hardware-adjacent products.
This person will work closely with engineering, customers and company leadership to define product requirements, establish priorities and guide products from early planning through commercial release. The role begins as a senior individual contributor position but offers the opportunity to take on broader product leadership responsibilities as the company and product organization grow.
This is a full time, permanent position onsite in San Jose, CA.
What You'll Do:
- Own the strategy and roadmap for embedded software and firmware products.
- Translate customer needs, technical concepts and business objectives into clear product requirements and development priorities.
- Develop product requirements, acceptance criteria, release plans and supporting documentation.
- Partner closely with firmware, embedded software, hardware, systems, quality and commercial teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Lead technical product discussions with customers and partners to understand integration requirements, use cases and future needs.
- Prioritize features across multiple development programs and make informed decisions around scope, timing and resources.
- Coordinate software and firmware plans with related hardware products and technical dependencies.
- Support product launches, positioning, customer presentations and partner enablement.
- Help establish product management processes and contribute to the continued growth of the product organization.
Must-Have Skills
:
- At least 8 years of product management experience
- Experience owning a technically complex product, platform or product line from definition through release.
- A strong understanding of firmware, embedded systems, systems software or another low-level hardware-adjacent technology.
- The technical depth to work effectively with engineering teams and participate credibly in architecture and product-design discussions.
- Experience turning customer and market feedback into detailed product requirements and actionable engineering priorities.
- Experience working directly with technical customers, partners or enterprise stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing product documentation and presenting to both technical and executive audiences.
- The ability to operate effectively in an evolving environment where priorities, products and markets are still being defined.
Nice to Have Skills
:
- A prior background in engineering, systems architecture, field applications or another deeply technical function.
- Experience with server infrastructure, platform management, embedded computing, networking, storage, security or other complex hardware systems.
- Experience working in a company where hardware, software and firmware are developed as an integrated product.
- Exposure to large-scale computing environments or infrastructure products.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Base salary between $220,000-$250,000 plus meaningful equity
