Job description

About this role

Switched Source is a Chicago-based small business, building the next generation of power flow control technologies to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and distributed generation hosting capacity of the electric distribution grid.

Our team consists of top performers working in an entrepreneurial atmosphere to solve the most pressing issues in electricity distribution: how to increase the reliability of the grid in a capital-efficient manner, how to de-carbonize the grid by enabling it to accommodate more electric vehicles and rooftop solar, and how to improve the flexibility of the system and increase automation.

At Switched Source, we are always evolving. Our success depends on people who approach challenges with curiosity, show empathy, and respect one another. We flex to support the team wherever needed, communicate openly, and collaborate to solve complex problems.

We value progress over rigidity and collective success over individual agendas.

Position Summary

The Regional Sales Manager is responsible for driving sales growth across an assigned territory by developing strong relationships with electric utilities, end users, manufacturer representatives, sales channel partners, and other key stakeholders.

This role owns the regional sales strategy, identifies new business opportunities, expands channel partnerships, and serves as a trusted technical and commercial resource for customers in the electric utility distribution market.

Remote, with travel

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a regional sales strategy to achieve territory revenue and growth goals.
  • Build, maintain, and deepen relationships with electric utility customers, especially end users and decision-makers involved in distribution operations, engineering, planning, standards, and field applications.
  • Own account relationships with utilities in the assigned region and identify opportunities to expand engagement, increase sales, and strengthen long-term customer partnerships.
  • Evaluate the region’s sales channels and determine how to best utilize manufacturer representatives, partners, and additional sales resources to support growth.
  • Identify, recruit, and support new sales partners or channel partners where needed to improve regional coverage and customer access.
  • Coordinate customer meetings, product discussions, technical presentations, and follow-up activities with utilities and channel partners.
  • Represent the company professionally at customer meetings, industry events, conferences, and other utility-focused engagements.
  • Manage travel schedules and regional activity planning to ensure consistent customer engagement across the territory.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience working for one or more electric utilities, preferably in the distribution space.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50–70% within the assigned region.
  • Dynamic, relationship-oriented personality with the ability to build trust with customers, end users, and external partners.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related technical degree or commensurate experience.
  • Hands-on experience with electric utility distribution equipment such as reclosers, capacitor banks, and single-phase voltage regulators.
  • Strong understanding of utility distribution operations, engineering, planning, standards, or related field practices.
  • Relay technician experience or equivalent field-based utility experience.
  • Prior sales, business development, account management, or channel partner management experience.
  • Experience presenting technical solutions to utility engineering, operations, or standards teams.

Travel

  • This position requires significant regional travel, estimated at 50–70%, to meet with utility customers, channel partners, manufacturer representatives, and industry stakeholders.
