Position Summary

The Software Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance of Swagelok software products and surrounding solutions.

This position works closely with internal and external developers of software, firmware and hardware to define verification and validation approaches, develop and execute test programs, document and track defects to closure and drive continuous improvement through testing automation.

This role is the team’s expert on software quality practices and processes, reliability evaluation, and release readiness. They apply the expectations for software requirement documentation and confirm that the product(s) meet those requirements. They also coordinate “customer acceptance testing” with marketing and Sales and Service Center associates.

The Software Quality Engineer influences the rest of the team to incorporate quality best practices throughout the development cycle.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Applies standards and expectations for documenting software requirements and their connection to customer requirements
  • Participates in software architecture, design, and requirement generation and ensures quality considerations are incorporated throughout the process
  • Participates in and facilitates software risk assessments, cybersecurity risk reviews, and reliability evaluations
  • Develops and executes software and firmware test programs and test plans
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously
  • Coordinates with internal and external resources to execute software and firmware test programs and test plans, including defining test scope and acceptance criteria for external testing partners and validating their deliverables
  • Effectively documents test results as well as bugs and opportunities for improvement in the team’s defect tracking and test management tools
  • Drives automation of test program, including building and maintaining automated test suites and integrating them into the pipeline
  • Applies release criteria for software versions and confirms readiness for release
  • Participates in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and requirement and design reviews; contributes testability input and acceptance criteria to user stories
  • Supports documentation of compliance with Swagelok Software Quality Standards

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Related Field
  • 5+ years of experience in software testing, software quality control, or software quality assurance for software, firmware or embedded products
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (Python, C#, Java, JavaScript or C/C++)
  • Working experience with version control (e.g. Git)
  • Experience within an Agile/Scrum Environment
  • Experience in defect tracking and test management tooling
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience testing embedded firmware and Linux-based devices, including bench-level or hardware-in-the-loop test automation
  • Virtualization: VMware
  • Tools: Node.js, Eclipse, Visual Studio, WireShark, PuTTY, Tera Term, etc.
  • Experience with Modbus/TCP, Ethernet/IP, or other industrial Ethernet protocols.
  • Practical experience with building software on TCP/UDP networking APIs on Linux.
  • Experience in TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, as well as in LAN/WAN network administration and engineering.
  • IoT protocols/services: MQTT, AMQP, RESTful API
  • Database: SQL, ODBC.
  • Hardware troubleshooting skills using DMMs, oscilloscopes, and other bench equipment.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements

:

  • Working conditions associated with normal office environment.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, telephone, copier, printer, etc.).
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both small and large groups and settings.
  • Ability to traverse between multiple locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania as needed.
  • Occasional domestic and/or international travel may be required.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
