About this role
Stockmeister Construction Services is seeking a Fabrication Engineer / Mechanical Designer to join our fabrication team in Jackson, Ohio!
We're looking for someone who is mechanically minded and fabrication-oriented. This is not a position limited to sitting at a desk and producing drawings. The person in this role should be comfortable walking onto the shop floor, talking with a welder or fabricator, understanding a problem, taking measurements, and developing a practical solution that can actually be built.
The position combines 3D design, mechanical problem-solving, fabrication, and project management. You'll work closely with customers, our fabrication team, and Stockmeister's construction project management personnel to take projects from initial problem through design, proposal, fabrication, and installation.
Responsibilities
- Develop practical mechanical and fabrication solutions for customer and facility needs
- Create 3D models, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and assemblies
- Design using Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or equivalent 3D CAD software
- Review blueprints, specifications, field measurements, and existing conditions
- Work directly with welders and fabricators to ensure designs are practical and buildable
- Coordinate projects from concept and design through proposal, fabrication, and installation
- Assist with estimating, material takeoffs, purchasing, scheduling, and vendor coordination
- Coordinate with customers, construction project managers, fabricators, and field personnel
- Provide occasional field and installation oversight
- Help improve fabrication methods, shop processes, and efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Strong proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar 3D CAD software
- Experience with metal fabrication and welding
- Familiarity with press brakes, CNC fiber lasers, saws, and other fabrication equipment
- Ability to read and produce blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication/mechanical drawings
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills
- Experience with industrial equipment, facilities, maintenance, manufacturing, construction, or custom fabrication
- Project management or project coordination experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, project managers, tradespeople, welders, and fabricators
Education
A degree or technical education in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Design, Drafting/CAD, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field is preferred but not required for candidates with strong applicable experience.
Position Details
- Full-time
- In-person in Jackson, Ohio
- Office and fabrication shop environment
- No remote work
- Minimal travel, primarily for field measurements, customer coordination, or installation/project oversight
- Full benefits package
