About this role
We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join our Enterprise Application Development team and help build the software that runs our retail convenience store business.
Our team designs, develops, maintains, and supports applications in-house, giving engineers the chance to work directly with the business and see the impact of what they build. We work across a broad range of applications, systems, and business processes, so there's always something new to learn.
This is a mid-level role for someone with professional experience and technical confidence who can contribute independently, bring fresh perspective to the team, and keep growing their technical and business knowledge.
What You'll Do:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and support enterprise applications.
- Analyze complex technical and business problems and develop effective solutions.
- Work with business analysts, stakeholders, and technical team members to understand requirements and business processes.
- Contribute to technical designs and application architecture.
- Develop and support RESTful APIs, backend services, and system integrations.
- Participate in peer code reviews and collaborative development practices.
- Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement lasting solutions.
- Improve application performance, reliability, maintainability, and security.
- Identify opportunities to automate, simplify, and improve applications and business processes.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and contribute ideas that improve how we build and support software.
What Sets You Apart:
- A self-starter who takes ownership and moves work forward without constant direction.
- Naturally curious about how systems, technology, and the business behind them work.
- An engaged contributor who brings ideas, asks questions, and looks for better ways to solve problems.
- Comfortable working through unfamiliar problems and picking up new technologies.
- Able to respectfully challenge existing approaches and contribute to technical decisions.
- A strong communicator who works effectively with both technical and non-technical people.
- Takes pride in building quality software and improving the systems and processes around it.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
- 3–5 years of professional software development experience.
- Strong understanding of software development fundamentals and strongly typed programming languages such as C#, Java, Kotlin, or similar.
- Proficiency with SQL and relational databases.
- Professional experience developing or consuming RESTful APIs.
- Proficiency working with Linux-based containers and containerized applications.
- Solid understanding of container orchestration concepts.
- Experience with source control, code reviews, testing, debugging, and modern software development practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- C# / .NET
- Spring Boot
- Kotlin
- SQL Server
- PostgreSQL
- Docker
- Linux / Ubuntu
- Azure DevOps and Azure Pipelines
- CI/CD practices
- Microservices architecture
- Automated testing
