About this role
Hi, I’m Brayden, Founder at Sola,
Millions of homeowners can no longer get affordable home insurance, and the process is often confusing, slow, and frustrating. We invented a first-of-its-kind weather data-driven wind and hail policy that reduces fraud and enables more people to get covered at a price that actually makes sense.
We are already live, growing fast, and partnering with thousands of agencies. Now we need to scale the software experience to match the opportunity.
At Sola, you will design the product experience that enables agents to protect more homeowners and move faster, and helps people get through claims with confidence and clarity. If you love building simple, high-quality software that real people depend on, I look forward to meeting you.
Brayden

About the Role
We are hiring a Product Designer to own the interface and user experience of Sola’s risk management platform. The platform will help people evaluate performance, explore segments, understand patterns and concentrations, investigate issues, and take action on what they find. It will also support data review and reporting workflows.
This is a hands-on builder role. You will work directly with domain specialists, product, and engineering to understand user needs and translate them into clear product experiences. You will help define the structure of the platform, shape its core workflows, and carry designs from early concepts through implementation.
The design challenge is making complex information usable for people with different responsibilities, levels of familiarity, and access needs. A user should be able to start with a high-level question, narrow it to a segment or geography, inspect the records behind a result, and understand the next step without losing context. Your work will determine how naturally those pieces fit together.
You will also design the interfaces that support reporting: how users review information, identify missing or inconsistent data, resolve exceptions, and prepare outputs. Our business and operations teams own the underlying rules, report content, and reporting execution. You own the experience that enables them to do that work effectively.
We are looking for someone who has designed complex applications for professional users and enjoys working closely with domain experts. Experience in analytics, B2B software, financial tools, or other products that combine data and workflows is directly relevant.
Insurance experience is not required; you will work with specialists to learn the business context.
What you’ll do
Own the end-to-end product experience.
Design the core flows, navigation, and interactions across the platform. Establish how overview screens, segments, individual records, and reporting tasks connect. You are accountable for a coherent experience from the first screen a user opens through the completion of their task.
Design for internal and external users.
Understand how different users work, what information they need, and which actions they can take. Review their existing tools and processes, then translate those findings into flows and prototypes. Account for different roles, permissions, and levels of familiarity while keeping the experience consistent across the product.
Design how users explore data and performance.
Create tables, filters, charts, and comparison views that let users examine performance across relevant segments and time periods. Make it easy to narrow a question, compare groups, and inspect the underlying records. Partner with specialists on metric definitions so users understand what a number represents and what is included in a comparison.
Help users spot patterns and concentrations.
Design views that show how risk and activity are distributed across geography and other relevant dimensions. Use maps, tables, and visualizations where they support the task. Help users identify areas that need attention and move into the contributing records, with the context needed to evaluate a response.
Support investigation and review workflows.
Design the path from a flagged issue or unusual pattern into the supporting information. Help users compare records, inspect relevant details, and track the status of a review. Make clear which findings are preliminary and which have been confirmed by the people responsible for the decision.
Connect analysis to action.
Design what happens after a user identifies something that needs attention. Define clear interactions for reviewing records, assigning follow-up, requesting approval, or recording a decision where those steps are part of the business workflow. Make the scope of an action, its status, and its outcome understandable, especially when it affects multiple records.
Make reporting workflows clear and efficient.
Work with the teams responsible for reporting to design how they review data, understand validation feedback, correct issues, and prepare reports or exports. Make reporting periods, completion status, and outstanding exceptions easy to follow. The reporting team owns preparation and distribution; you own the interface and interactions that support their process.
Make detailed screens clear and trustworthy.
Use typography, hierarchy, spacing, and consistent interaction patterns to make substantial amounts of information readable. Account for data freshness, metric definitions, missing values, loading states, empty results, and errors. Preserve the detail expert users need while making it clear where they should focus.
Prototype, test, and ship with engineering.
Build interactive prototypes to validate navigation and complex interactions with internal and external users. Work with engineers on data availability, performance, and implementation constraints, and make practical tradeoffs as the product takes shape. Review the implemented experience and refine it based on user feedback and observed task completion.
Build a consistent design foundation.
Contribute to Sola’s design system and establish reusable patterns for tables, filters, record views, charts, forms, and workflow states. Apply accessibility and responsive design principles so the platform stays usable and consistent as new capabilities are added.
What You Should Bring:
- 3+ years of in-house product design experience working on shipped software, with meaningful ownership of features or end-to-end workflows
- Experience designing complex web applications for professional users, such as B2B software, analytics products, financial platforms, or internal tools
- A portfolio demonstrating strong product thinking and interface craft, including how you organized complex information
- Strong visual design skills, especially hierarchy, typography, spacing, and consistency in interfaces with substantial data
- Experience translating specialized requirements into usable interfaces for people with different roles, permissions, or levels of expertise
- Proven collaboration with product managers and engineers from discovery through implementation, with clear examples of tradeoffs you helped resolve
- Experience contributing to a design system and applying accessibility and responsive design principles across product surfaces
- Proficiency with Figma or equivalent design and prototyping tools, with the ability to move from high-level flows to detailed interactions
- Experience creating prototypes using code or code-adjacent tools such as Cursor, Framer, or React is a plus
- Curiosity about unfamiliar domains and the ability to learn from subject matter experts; prior insurance experience is not required
- Comfort working hands-on in a startup environment, shaping an ambiguous problem, proposing a practical first version, and improving it after release
What Makes This Role Different:
- You build it.
You will help define the structure, workflows, and interface patterns of a core product as it takes shape. Your decisions will influence how the platform grows.
- Your users are your collaborators.
You will work with internal teams and external users, learn how they use the platform, and see how your designs affect their day-to-day work.
- You own a complete product experience.
The platform brings analysis, investigation, action, and reporting into one product. You will own how those experiences connect and maintain a high standard of usability and visual craft across them.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary with bonus ($100,000–$180,000)
- Stock options
- Medical, dental & vision insurance
- Unlimited PTO
- Dynamic work culture that promotes growth, collaboration, and risk-taking
