About this role
Who We Are
We're a small CPA firm, and we like it that way. No endless layers of management, no getting lost in a sea of cubicles. We work closely with our clients year-round on tax planning and advisory, because that's where the real value gets created and where relationships are built.
We also believe you never really stop learning in this profession, and we've built a firm that takes that seriously. If that sounds boring to you, this probably isn't your job. If it sounds like relief, keep reading.
The Opportunity
You've got a few busy seasons under your belt and you know your way around a return. Now you want a place where you can keep building — where someone explains the why behind the review notes, and where there's a clear next step. This is a long-term position with a defined path toward a senior role, and we'll back you as you work toward your CPA or EA.
We're looking for someone who wants to get better at the technical side of tax, better at working with people, and better at themselves along the way. The role is based in our Rexburg office, with in-office or hybrid schedules available.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Preparing individual, business, and partnership tax returns, with real feedback from experienced reviewers
- Taking on more complex returns as your skills grow — we'll hand you the hard ones when you're ready, and help you through them
- Working with clients directly: gathering information, answering questions, and learning how good planning conversations work
- Spotting planning opportunities and bringing them to the team
- Working closely with a small team where everyone knows what everyone else is doing
- Staying curious — digging into new tax rules, new tools, and better ways to serve clients
- Over time, starting to review others' work as you move toward a senior role
What You Bring
- CPA or EA, or actively working toward one
- 2–4 years in public accounting, tax-focused
- Solid experience preparing individual and business returns (partnership experience is a plus)
- You genuinely like tax work. Not "tolerate it for the paycheck" — actually find it interesting
- You love learning. New rules, new software, new ways of doing things — you want to understand why, not just get through the return
- You take review notes as coaching, not criticism, and you learn from them
- You can talk to a client like a human being and earn their trust
- You're a team player, not a lone wolf — small firms don't work if everyone's out for themselves
You're honest and dependable. We're not interested in someone who cuts corners or tells clients what they want to hear instead of what's true. If a mistake happens, we want to hear about it from you first.
You're looking for a home, not a layover — someone thinking in years
Your Path Here
- A defined path toward a senior role as your skills, credentials, and client relationships grow
- Support as you work toward your CPA or EA, including help with exam costs and study time
- Mentoring from experienced reviewers who explain the why behind every note
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $55,000–$75,000, based on credentials and experience — $55,000–$60,000 while you're working toward a credential, EAs in the middle of the range, and licensed CPAs up to $75,000
- Busy-season bonus tied to hours billed
- Group 401(k) with employer match
- CPE and professional dues covered — we want you staying sharp, not paying for it yourself
- Real PTO, plus lighter hours in the off-season (yes, that exists here)
- Growing benefits package, with more being added as the firm grows
Why This Beats a Bigger Firm
- You'll see the whole return and the whole client, not one slice of it
- Your work and your voice are visible here
- Decisions get made in a conversation, not a committee
- You'll know your clients, and they'll know you
- A place to keep learning, keep improving, and build something that lasts
