About this role
Accounting Manager
Company: ShipSquared
Reports to Chief Executive Officer
Location Dallas, TX preferred; remote (U.S.) considered
Type Full-time, exempt
ABOUT SHIPSQUARED
ShipSquared is a fast-growing, tech-enabled third-party logistics company based in Dallas. We help e-commerce brands scale through fulfillment, freight forwarding, China sourcing and direct-channel services, backed by a proprietary client portal and a growing layer of automation and AI. We are founder-led, move quickly, and expect everyone to act like an owner.
THE ROLE
ShipSquared is seeking an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to personally own and execute all accounting functions, including monthly close, financial statements, budgeting, billing, AR/AP, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
Beyond strong technical accounting skills, we're looking for someone with business acumen who can analyze financial performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and serve as a thought partner to leadership. You'll be in the details every day, doing the work yourself, with the opportunity to grow into a broader finance role as the company scales.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Own the monthly close and deliver accurate financial statements, including P&Ls by service line, on a fixed calendar
- Maintain the general ledger and prepare accruals, reconciliations and revenue presentation, including gross vs. net treatment of postage and pass-through freight
- Own client billing and collections, reconciled to WMS and shipping data so every billable activity is captured
- Assist with rate negotiations with parcel carriers, forwarders and key vendors; audit carrier invoices and recover credits
- Model the margin impact of rate increases and surcharges, and support Sales with quote models, margin floors and deal review
- Own budgeting, forecasting and a rolling 13-week cash flow; deliver a weekly finance and KPI view to leadership
- Work with our outside CPA on tax compliance; process payroll and maintain internal controls
- Drive automation across billing and accounting systems, using AI tools where they shorten the close or tighten billing
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including 3+ years personally owning and
executing the monthly close (e.g., as a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager)
- Strong command of accrual accounting and GAAP, including revenue recognition and principal-vs-agent presentation
- Advanced Excel; experience with cloud accounting systems (QuickBooks Online) and reconciling data from WMS and shipping platforms
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- Hands-on experience using AI tools or building automations, such as workflows, scripts or integrations, that streamline finance and accounting functions
Preferred
- CPA or CMA
- Public accounting experience
- Working knowledge of parcel and freight pricing (zones, dimensional weight, surcharges, general rate increases) and a track record negotiating with carriers or vendors
- 3+ years of finance experience in logistics or supply chain (3PL or e-commerce fulfillment, freight forwarding, warehousing, transportation), or in finance for a DTC or CPG brand that runs its own fulfillment and carrier program
- Experience in a founder-led, high-growth company
- Experience with import costing, duties and tariffs, and cross-border flows
- Familiarity with WMS and shipping platforms (e.g., ShipHero), BI tools and finance automation
WHO THRIVES HERE
- A builder. You turn complex processes into scalable systems, then automate them.
- Commercially minded. You see an invoice as a pricing decision and a carrier contract as a margin lever.
- Hands-on. You understand the operation well enough to know what should be billed and what it really costs.
- A straight shooter with an owner’s mentality. Being proactive is extremely important: you fix problems before they are raised and constantly look for ways to improve customer and company performance.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Base salary of $90,000–$115,000, plus performance bonus potential.
- Dallas-area candidates preferred; remote candidates anywhere in the U.S. are welcome.
- Pay: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year Work Location: Remote
