Position Summary
Serenity Home Health Care is seeking an experienced Director of Information Technology to lead and strengthen the company's internal IT operations. This person will be the senior internal technical owner for Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop, networking, endpoints, backups, cybersecurity controls, and technology vendors.
The goal is to build strong internal IT ownership so Serenity can manage its environment directly while using outside vendors only where specialized support is needed.
What This Role Is Responsible For
The Director will lead the internal IT team, set technical standards, protect Serenity's technology interests, and make sure the organization can operate, monitor, secure, recover, and improve its system without depending entirely on one outside provider.
Cloud and Microsoft Environment
- Provide internal ownership and oversight for Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure, and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
- Manage administrative access, role assignments, MFA, emergency access, and least-privilege controls.
- Oversee Azure subscriptions, resource access, monitoring, cost visibility, and technical documentation.
- Ensure AVD workspaces, host pools, session hosts, user access, images, patching, and support processes are properly managed.
- Help Serenity evaluate where AVD is still needed and where modern cloud-managed endpoints may be a better long-term solution.
Infrastructure, Network and Endpoints
- Oversee office connectivity, on-premises firewalls, VPNs, switching, Wi-Fi, DNS, and related network services.
- Work with the System Administrator and support staff to maintain reliable Windows devices, printers, servers, and business systems.
- Establish and maintain endpoint standards using Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, BitLocker, Defender, patching, and device compliance where adopted.
- Coordinate troubleshooting for major outages and make sure clear escalation procedures are in place.
Security, Backup and Recovery
- Work with Serenity leadership, compliance/GRC staff, and technical teams to turn security and HIPAA requirements into practical technical controls.
- Review privileged access, security alerts, audit logs, MFA, vendor access, and incident-response procedures.
- Ensure backup coverage is clearly documented and that backup failures are monitored and addressed.
- Make sure restore testing and disaster-recovery testing are performed and documented on a regular schedule.
- Maintain clear recovery procedures for critical systems and services.
IT Team and Vendor Leadership
- Lead and support Serenity's internal IT staff, including the System Administrator and other technical/support roles.
- Define responsibilities, priorities, escalation paths, documentation standards, and operating procedures for the IT team.
- Manage technical relationships with MSPs, cloud providers, security vendors, internet providers, software vendors, and other third parties.
- Review vendor work, access, deliverables, support performance, renewals, and technical dependencies.
- Ensure Serenity retains ownership of its accounts, documentation, configurations, data, backups, and administrative access.
Planning, Reporting and Business Support
- Prepare a practical IT roadmap covering cloud, endpoints, security, network, backup, licensing, and lifecycle planning.
- Monitor technology costs and work with leadership on budgets, licensing, renewals, and investment priorities.
- Provide clear updates to leadership on IT performance, risks, incidents, major projects, costs, and unresolved issues.
- Coordinate technology projects with department leaders while minimizing disruption to employees and business operations.
- Maintain accurate inventories, diagrams, procedures, support contacts, and change records.
Qualifications
- Required strong hands-on experience supporting Microsoft cloud and Windows environments.
- Required practical experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Azure administration, identity and access management, and Windows systems.
- Experience supporting or overseeing Azure Virtual Desktop, virtualization, or enterprise remote'desktop environments.
- Solid understanding of networking, VPNs, firewalls, DNS, endpoint security, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Experience leading technical staff, coordinating vendors, and managing business-critical IT services.
- Ability to explain technical problems and recommendations clearly to non-technical leadership.
- Strong documentation, troubleshooting, project-management, and communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience in healthcare, home health, or another regulated environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Intune, Defender, Conditional Access, Windows Autopatch/Update forBusiness, and modern endpoint management.
- Experience with HIPAA-related technical safeguards, security reviews, incident response, and vendor access management.
- Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-140, AZ-700, SC-300, or similar current cloud/security credentials.
- Experience managing a transition from vendor-led IT operations to a stronger internal IT operating model.
First 90-Day Priorities
1. Confirm Serenity-controlled administrative access and review all privileged accounts and vendor access.
2. Complete a current-state inventory of Microsoft, Azure/AVD, networks, servers, endpoints, backups, applications, vendors, and support responsibilities.
3. Confirm backup coverage and complete or schedule documented restore/disaster-recovery testing.
4. Review AVD operations, application dependencies, recurring issues, monitoring, and support procedures.
5. Establish a clear IT responsibility matrix for the Director, System Administrator, support staff, vendors, and leadership.
6. Create a short-term stabilization plan and a longer-term roadmap for Azure/AVD, cloud-managed endpoints, security, networking, and cost control.
7. Begin simple monthly reporting to leadership covering service health, risks, security, backups, projects, costs, and open issues.
What Success Looks Like
The successful Director will make sure Serenity has clear internal ownership of its technology
environment, documented access and recovery procedures, reliable systems, strong security controls,
accountable vendors, and an IT team that can manage day-to-day operations confidently. This is a hands-on leadership role: the Director is not expected to perform every technical task personally, but must understand the environment well enough to lead the team, make sound decisions, and respond effectively when major issues occur.
Role Relationship
This role is intended to strengthen Serenity's internal IT capability. The Director will lead the internal technical function and work with the existing System Administrator, support staff, compliance/GRC resources, leadership, and approved outside specialists or vendors as needed. Outside providers should support Serenity's internal team rather than replace Serenity's ownership and decision-making authority
