Registered Nurse (RN) – PRN | Home Care Assessments & Clinical Oversight

==============================================================================

Senior Helpers Southern Maryland

Location: Southern Prince George's & Northern Charles Counties, Maryland

Position Type: PRN / As Needed | 1099 Independent Contractor

Work Setting: Client Homes & Agency Training Center

Make a Difference Beyond the Bedside!

-----------------------------------------

Are you a Registered Nurse seeking flexible, meaningful opportunities where your clinical expertise and professional judgment can make a difference?

Senior Helpers Southern Maryland is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced PRN Registered Nurse to provide in-home client assessments, develop individualized care plans, evaluate caregiver competencies, and support quality care throughout our community.

As a locally owned and operated home care agency, we are committed to helping older adults remain safe, comfortable, and independent at home. Our specialized dementia education, Parkinson's care programs, and Center of Excellence training environment reflect our commitment to exceptional care.

This opportunity is ideal for an RN who enjoys working independently, values professional accountability, and wants to use their nursing experience outside a traditional bedside setting.

What You'll Do

------------------

Client Assessments & Care Planning

  • Conduct initial nursing assessments and required reassessments in clients' homes.
  • Evaluate functional abilities, personal care needs, safety risks, and changes in condition.
  • Develop, review, and update individualized care plans within the agency's authorized scope.
  • Identify concerns requiring additional clinical review, intervention, or services.
  • Communicate assessment findings and recommendations to the appropriate office personnel.

Caregiver Training & Competency

  • Conduct hands-on caregiver skills evaluations and competency assessments.
  • Evaluate caregiver proficiency in personal care, transfers, mobility assistance, and other approved tasks.
  • Provide practical coaching and recommendations for additional education.
  • Support caregiver competency development through our Center of Excellence training environment.

Clinical Oversight & Quality Assurance

  • Provide professional nursing guidance regarding client safety and caregiver competency concerns.
  • Evaluate clinical matters referred by the agency, caregivers, or client families.
  • Recommend appropriate care plan adjustments and follow-up actions.
  • Collaborate with designated agency personnel to support continuity of care.
  • Complete accurate and timely clinical assessments, evaluations, and documentation.

What This Role Does NOT Include

-----------------------------------

Our PRN RN position is specifically focused on clinical responsibilities rather than routine office administration.

You will not be responsible for:

  • Daily caregiver scheduling, call-outs, or shift replacements.
  • Routine caregiver recruiting, hiring administration, or general personnel management.
  • Payroll, billing, invoicing, or financial administration.
  • General office management or routine customer service.
  • Filling standard companion or personal care shifts.
  • Performing skilled nursing treatments outside the agency's authorized scope of services.

Clinical assessments, caregiver competency evaluations, client safety concerns, and appropriate nursing oversight remain essential responsibilities of this role.

What We're Looking For

--------------------------

Required Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted Maryland RN license or valid multistate RN license authorizing practice in Maryland.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound nursing judgment.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout our service area.
  • Proficiency with electronic documentation and basic workplace technology.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professional ethics, and client dignity.
  • Ability to satisfy applicable credential verification, background screening, and agency compliance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in home care, home health, geriatrics, or long-term care.
  • Experience conducting in-home nursing assessments and developing individualized care plans.
  • Experience providing caregiver training or competency evaluations.
  • Familiarity with Maryland residential service agency requirements.
  • Experience supporting individuals living with dementia, Parkinson's disease, or other age-related conditions.

Experienced, semi-retired, and qualified nurses returning to practice are encouraged to apply.

Professional Expectations

-----------------------------

At Senior Helpers Southern Maryland, we value clinical expertise, reliability, and professional independence.

Successful RN contractors will:

  • Accept assignments that align with their professional availability and honor agreed-upon commitments.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for accepted appointments.
  • Complete assessments, care plans, and documentation within established assignment deadlines.
  • Communicate significant clinical findings and safety concerns promptly.
  • Exercise independent nursing judgment within applicable professional standards and the agency's authorized services.
  • Utilize appropriate clinical resources and established procedures when clarification is needed.
  • Follow accepted assignments through completion, including required documentation and communication.
  • Collaborate professionally with agency personnel while maintaining appropriate role boundaries.
