What will you do as a Mechanical Engineer at Sealed Air?
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will join our Global Engineering team to design, develop, and improve manufacturing machinery supporting Sealed Air's global operations and leading packaging brands, including Autobag, Liquibox, Bubble Wrap, and Cryovac. You will apply your expertise in mechanical design, 3D CAD modeling, and manufacturing processes to deliver innovative and efficient equipment solutions.
Working closely with engineering, operations, and procurement teams, you will contribute to the entire engineering design process, from concept development and detailed modeling to bills of materials, design changes, and successful equipment implementation.
Why do we need you?
- Design, develop, and modify manufacturing machinery, mechanical components, and assemblies using 3D CAD tools, primarily Creo and SolidWorks.
- Translate mechanical designs into detailed engineering drawings, technical specifications, and accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support equipment manufacturing and procurement.
- Evaluate and implement engineering design changes, ensuring component functionality, manufacturability, reliability, and alignment with technical requirements.
- Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), maintaining accurate documentation, configuration control, and engineering data management records.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and procurement teams to define project requirements, conduct design reviews, and ensure successful execution.
- Identify and resolve mechanical design, machinery performance, and reliability challenges to improve equipment efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Support engineering projects throughout the design and implementation lifecycle, coordinating across functions to address technical challenges and facilitate project completion.
- Maintain standardized CAD configurations, component libraries, technical documentation, and engineering best practices to improve consistency, efficiency, and accuracy.
What do you need to succeed?
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and mechanical machinery design using PTC Creo, SolidWorks, or comparable engineering design software.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, engineering mathematics, strength of materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to design industrial machinery, mechanical assemblies, and components with consideration for manufacturability, functionality, and reliability.
- Experience developing engineering drawings, technical specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing and procurement.
- Knowledge of Engineering Change Management processes, including ECRs, ECNs, configuration management, and engineering documentation.
- Familiarity with engineering data management systems, component libraries, and technical documentation standards.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with converting equipment, film processing, or continuous manufacturing environments is highly desirable.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, participate in technical design reviews, and incorporate engineering feedback.
- Strong project ownership, with the ability to coordinate across engineering, manufacturing, and procurement to support successful equipment implementation.
- Availability for occasional travel to nearby manufacturing facilities and overnight travel of less than 10%.
