Posting Summary

Rutgers University–Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an IT Project Manager.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Innovation & Technology Strategy within Technology & Learning Spaces (TLS), the IT Project Manager plans, coordinates, and tracks information technology project initiatives and leads technical solution implementations for the Rutgers–Newark campus.

This is a hands-on role with campus-wide reach and room to grow. The IT Project Manager owns projects end to end, partners directly with the schools and administrative units that depend on them, and helps shape how Rutgers–Newark evaluates and adopts emerging technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) and automation capabilities.

The position responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:

  • Ensures cohesiveness between Rutgers–Newark Technology and Learning Spaces (TLS), Rutgers–Newark IT (RUN-IT), and other Rutgers–Newark campus stakeholders in technical solution design, technical implementation, and overall project delivery for infrastructure, system, and application initiatives across the campus.
  • Serves as primary client liaison and provides the “bridge” between client needs and the technical solutions that support those needs.
  • Plans and delivers projects that introduce AI-enabled and automation capabilities into campus systems and services — including requirements definition, vendor and platform evaluation, pilot design, and adoption support — in alignment with university data governance, accessibility, security, and responsible-use standards.
  • Responsible for financial/budget management of assigned projects.
  • Applies best practices in project management and technical implementation in order to deliver value-added solutions in a cost-effective manner.
  • Applies university-approved AI tools within the project management practice to improve the speed and quality of documentation, status reporting, and risk identification.
