About this role

Moving Space Forward

Rocketdyne is back — and we're just getting started.

We are unleashing decades of unrivaled flight heritage to power the most critical missions in space today, from the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope to an MMRTG journeying to Saturn's largest moon. National security space is shifting to proliferated constellations, creating compounding demand for exactly what we build.

If you want to do the most important work of your career at a company where One, Trust, and Bold are a way of life, Rocketdyne is your place.

The Role

The Lead General Ledger Accountant will play a central role in the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of Rocketdyne’s financial reporting. This position sits at the heart of our month‑end close and consolidation processes, ensuring that the financial data powering decisions across the business is reliable and aligned with GAAP.

You will lead complex close activities, support consolidation accounting, manage high‑risk accounts, and implement process improvements that enhance the speed and quality of financial reporting. This role requires strong Oracle experience, extensive general ledger expertise, and deep familiarity with corporate accounting processes. A CPA is preferred.

The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail‑oriented, and confident navigating both the technical and operational sides of corporate accounting. You know how to manage a fast-paced close calendar, coordinate cross‑functional inputs, and guide the team toward disciplined, repeatable processes.

You understand how journal entries, subledger activity, and consolidation adjustments tie together — and you can communicate clearly with stakeholders at every level.

Why This Role Matters

Rocketdyne is at a defining moment in its evolution. Our growth trajectory, increasing program complexity, and the expanding requirements of our customers demand a world‑class Finance organization.

The Lead GL Accountant plays a critical part in ensuring:

  • Month‑end close is executed accurately, predictably, and on schedule
  • Consolidation results are complete, transparent, and audit‑ready
  • Oracle financial data reflects the true operational and program performance of the business
  • GAAP compliance is embedded into daily processes, not retrofitted after the fact
  • Finance leadership has confidence in the numbers and the insights needed to make timely decisions
  • System integrations and subledger activity flow cleanly into the general ledger
  • Financial reporting risks are identified and resolved early

Success in this role looks like:

  • A smooth close cycle with fewer late adjustments
  • Strong, well‑documented reconciliations across all assigned areas
  • Consolidations that are accurate, well‑supported, and delivered on time
  • Improved processes that reduce manual work and errors
  • A GL environment that is audit‑ready at all times

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the month‑end close process for assigned areas, ensuring timely and accurate completion of accounting activities
  • Prepare and review complex balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, leases, fixed assets, prepaids, intercompany, tax accruals, and corporate‑level accounts
  • Support consolidated financial reporting, including eliminations, consolidation entries, and review of entity‑level submissions
  • Ensure Oracle GL activity is accurate and aligned with subledger results; lead issue resolution with AP, Payroll, Program Accounting, and other partners
  • Drive continuous improvement of close processes, reconciliation quality, and system usage
  • Perform technical accounting research and apply GAAP to new or unusual transactions
  • Support external audit requests, prepare PBC schedules, and participate in audit walkthroughs
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls supporting the financial close and reporting cycle
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and supporting documentation
  • Assist the Assistant Controller with flux analysis, management reporting, and cross-functional initiatives
  • Mentor and guide Senior and Staff Accountants involved in close, reconciliations, or project work

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and corporate accounting principles
  • Experience with Oracle Financials (GL, FA, AP, Projects, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience leading month‑end close and supporting consolidations
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or government contracting
  • Prior experience in a corporate accounting function with multi‑entity consolidations
  • Experience supporting audits, SOX controls, and financial policy development
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze large datasets
  • Experience improving close processes, automating manual tasks, or enhancing ERP usage
